I agree, but egos also come into play. Gundy at OSU has already gone on the record questioning why the Big12 would add Houston as it would hurt Texas recruiting for existing Big12 schools. Gundy can probably say it, while UT and OU might feel the same, but remain quiet.

Northern schools might resist, feeling the conference would be too Texas centric with 5 of 12/14 schools from the state.

It only takes 3 to say no.

Houston will probly beat OSU. Maybe Gundy sees this happening.

Let's us lose to another pathetic UNI team that can't complete a forward pass on our Cyclones.TV network that no one can even watch even if they wanted to. Sorry but Baylor has been crushing us in TV viewership for several years now. Part of getting a lot of eyeballs to watch your team is putting on a good product which we have never been able to do to the extent needed to increase TV viewership.

This makes me want them more. This is why ISU should want expansion.

Here's what I would do (if anyone cared what I would do) and I think it's realistic, maybe until the last point.

1) Add BYU and Houston.

2) Create the following divisions:

Big 12 East
Baylor
Houston
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
West Virginia

Big 12 West
BYU
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
TCU
Texas
Texas Tech

3) Set up an 8-game conference football schedule (own division + half of other division, like the original Big 12, with no protected rivalries) with minimum 2 Power Five opponents in the non-con.

4) Retain the 18-game conference basketball schedule, playing own division home/away (10 games), 1 protected crossover home/away (2 games), 1 of the remaining 5 (rotating) in the opposite division home/away (2 games), and the remaining 4 teams once, either home or away.

Protected basketball crossovers would be:
Baylor & TCU
Houston & Texas Tech
Iowa State & Oklahoma State
Kansas & Texas
Kansas State & BYU
West Virginia & Oklahoma

5) Play the Big 12 championship game at Jerryworld in Dallas and extend the Big 12 basketball tournament at the Sprint Center for a long, long time.

6) Extend the GOR also for a long, long time.

7) Begin exploring the possibility of working with ESPN to repurpose the Longhorn Network into a Big 12 Network.

You are right, Houston as a team should be in. My issue is giving the Texas Governor another voting position. Some of his comments through this whole ordeal have made it sound like he expects UT and TTU to vote however he feels. To give him a third public school would be dangerous for the conference.

I think that may be moot anyway. I think the big 12 might want to consider the idea it had awhile back of having dynamic divisions. Switch it up every 2-4 years (enough that you get the home-away in)

Coaches and AD's should not favor UH for recruiting reasons, unless they replace Baylor. Many of our best players (El Roberson) have come from Houston. They'd never see Manhattan (or Ames) with UH in the league.

Pure speculation, but this is how I think it will shake out, if we add teams.

Hijacking cyIclSoneU format

1) Add in this order Houston, Memphis, BYU, Cincinnati

2) Create the following divisions:

Big 12 North
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
West Virginia
OU
OSU
**Cincy being the next round add to get to 14

Big 12 South
Baylor
TCU
Texas
Texas Tech
*Houston
*Memphis
**BYU interchangeable for Memphis

3) Set up an 8-game or 9 game conference football schedule (own division + half of other division, like the original Big 12, with one protected rivalry) with minimum 1 or 2 Power Five opponents in the non-con depending on 8 or 9 conf schedule.

OU gets TX as Protected, which keeps both sides happy. OU can rule the roost in the north and feel like a big wig. OSU and other North Schools might be mad about recruiting because they won't get to ply as many road games in Texas. But they could be guaranteed at least one game depending on scheduling.

This set up keeps most of the regional rivalries intact and brings OSU/OU back into the Big 8 territory.
