Pet peeve. When family members (grandparents in my case) have this obsession with little kids saying "Just like so and so!" For instance my mom and sister have some weird obsession with me and my little blankie when I was little (okay so I just gave it up last week) and they get all weird and kind of make fun of me for it. EVERY KID HAS SOME LITTLE THING THAT THEY ARE ATTACHED TO OR SLEEP WITH! Then my MIL has commented several times about LittleWx acting just like my BIL. For instance just like week she commented on a video my wife put on FB of LittleWx running around the living room and down this little 1 foot slide we have and said "Your brother used to do that to!". Congrats. About 90% of happy, energetic 1 year old boys will do pretty much the same damn thing.

End rant.

You rant just like your brother

KC - At ISU we did not have to live on campus as Freshmen - even back in our day. Overcrowded dorms were the norm (I lived 3 in a 2 man room in the Towers for about 3 weeks when I was a frosh). So they were happy to have you find other living arrangements.

Also we could have pretty much any UL listed appliance in the dorm. We had popcorn poppers, a hotplate, and a good sized toaster oven. Also the mandatory stereo system. But only just a little B&W 12" GE TV. (Edit - also a small fridge.)

But I do remember going in with other family members to buy our step-mother a microwave oven as a Christmas gift before I went off to school, so our family had one NLT Christmas 1975. I think it was from Monkey Wards.
Wazzu was a bit more behind the times I guess. They opened the first coed dorm (by floor) the year before I started there, and Daddy was horrified...until I informed him that the Udub had had coed dorms for quite a while. Then it was all "By God, you're going to Whitworth!" (a private Presbyterian college in Spokane where I had also been accepted).

As a resident, an RA AND as a hall coordinator, my son had his Teddy (his best friend from birth) sitting on a shelf in his room/office. You'd be amazed how many different homesick freshmen/women that Teddy bear has comforted. ;)

Relax. She's just sharing a memory.

Your son was a genius.

Hubby was just mentioning last night that we need to get back to the MN State Fair. Went every year we lived up there. We are a bit of fair fanatics, though.

GTO, that stinks. :( It is hard when you see how easily it could have been your kid instead. The family that CW has talked about, their daughter who is battling cancer for the third time is just a month younger than our 11yr old. Now that she is terminal, people are providing unique opportunities for the family. Recently they went up to the Mall of America and Mercedes Benz of DSM gave them a loaner for the weekend. She got to meet Megan Trainor at the state fair, and they are throwing a huge birthday bash for hrt next month. All I can think of is even though all those things are awesome, all they really want is just a healthy child.
