**2016 Capital City League Thread**

100% this. Most big men can't create their own shot and depend on quality guards to get them the ball. Playing with a better team might actually help him be more efficient and get the ball in better position to score.

While i agree with the sentiment, we have barely had a player average 12 and 8 here in the last 10 years. That is a hard feat. And I do not expect him to play enough minutes to reach those numbers because I do not think he is good enough to get 30 minutes on a top 25 team (which I think we are) and he will not be able to play 30 minutes due to his constant foul issues. He fouled out of some games in less than 20 minutes last year and finished with 3 or more fouls in 75% or so of the contests. When you constantly play with foul trouble you do not usually average 30 minutes. If we get 6 and 5 from him I will be happy.

Are you talking about the two big guys banging around under the basket? Or was that the third game?

Yep, that's what I'm thinking of. I'm pretty sure it was the second game. They got tangled up and got kind if snippy with each other.

He was under utilized though. They wouldn't let him leave the low block but from what I heard he has good handle on the ball and can hit from three.

Holden averaged 8 and 5 for a mediocre LA Tech team against much lesser competition. Not sure why anyone would expect 12 and 8 from him but if he is to achieve those numbers, he will have to cut his foul numbers in half to play long enough to do it.

All Holden has to do is concentrate on defending (not fouling) and rebounding. If he stays on the court, he will probably average 7-8 rebounds.

As far as scoring, points will find him with our guards spreading the floor.

11 & 7 is entirely realistic.

I don't think he's going to be handling the ball and shooting the three here either

I watched a couple of their games on video after it was announced he was coming here. He rarely seemed to be in the low block. Was constantly at the top of the key and would set screens and roll to the block or face up.

If he starts shooting threes for us next year in much capacity I do not think it will be a positive. Biggest key for him will be to stay on the court. 5.8 fouls committed per 40 minutes of playing time. That means at that rate, he would foul out 27.58 minutes into every game. 30 minutes per game does not seem likely to me. He only reached 30 minutes or more in three games last year. I think we will try to get 20 high energy minutes per game from him.

The foul situation could be somewhat team related as well.

We'll find out when the season starts.

Don't read too much into his time at La Tech, we've seen many instances where players are much better when they play at a higher level, surrounded by higher caliber teammates. I think we will see a very solid player with Holden this year.

I also expect Young to be a solid PF for us by the time the B12 rolls around.

Solid yes but I don't expect him to be a double digit scorer. I think his numbers will probably be about the same. Maybe better rebounding numbers

Big guy fouls are all about not picking up a couple cheapies.

Guys stay in front on the perimeter and hedge/switch the high screens right then you're fine.

Also may have a lot to do with the perimeter defensive ability and strategy of La Tech. I have no clue what La Tech's guards defended like, so I won't read too much into his numbers there.

From what I'm hearing, he has the potential to fill a very nice roll for us.

We've had several transfers from mid-majors increase their productivity after coming here. We've also had some that did not. Who knows with Holden, but its not an extreme jump to go from 8/5 to 12/8 if he plays 30 minutes a game.

Who has had a 50% increase in productivity as a grad transfer?

No one. Jake Anderson improved close to that though. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/36663/darion-jake-anderson

Deandre Kane bumped his stats up too. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/46134/deandre-kane

Not mid major players, but these guys improved their stats a lot after they came here:

For those planning on going to the CCL tonight, I know Solomon will NOT be there. Burton and Monte will be. Cyclone Academy, which was preventing the newcomers from playing on Wednesday's is over so hopefully Jakolby, Holden and Bowie play.

What kind of calculator are you using for that math?

Don't know what he's using but I know where he works.
