Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

Feeling a little old. Conversation about Erik and History got me visiting the ISU History faculty page and I didn't find any names I recognized...until I got to the Emeritus Faculty list: Avraamides, Bennet, Cravens, Kottman, Osborne, Rawson. I also noticed that they list History of Iowa, History of Women and American Social History under Schofield where Dorothy Schwieder should be. I was sorry to learn a couple of years ago that she had died.

My brother (the hok fan) is coming home sometime in September. He mentioned taking our dad to a football game....not sure if I want to suck it up and go to a hok game, or not. Although, if they could lose to north dakota, it might be worth being there.
You could always go cheer on the badgers

That being said, and I say this as a proud Wisconsin student, I don't know why you'd willingly go watch a big 10 game unless you or a parent were a grad of that school, or were more interested in watching the pageantry of it than the game. The style is just so boring. I'm sure my grandpa would like it, but that's because it would remind him of going to Iowa in the '40's

Ahhhhh, Kottman. He was fun.

Had the every semester "we have a plagiarism problem" talk with class today.
It's just not a semester anymore until someone gets caught cheating.

I'm pretty amazed anyone thinks they can get away with it anymore. It takes seconds to copy/paste something into Google to check it.

the best for me as a TA was when someone copied from a journal published by a school that the professor had attended and then gave me bad feedback as a TA because I didn't proofread their paper and tell them.

A. Don't be a *******
B. They didn't turn in a copy of a paper to have me proof by the professor's deadline
C. Even if they had, I checked formatting and overview only. Professor did the cheating checks.

Sept 10th is the ISU game, you could go dance on the field if we beat them.

He brought up that game...doesn't want to take him to that one since it's late at night. Or, he's scared that they're going to lose and he's just trying to cover his *** with excuses.

You haven't truly lived until you've done some synthesis problems on an Organic Chemistry test.

Something like this:

2-3 years ago I found a couple old tests from my 3rd semester of organic chemistry. I couldn't make heads or tails out of it. Don't know why I had it. Maybe I kept it to quiz any wife I might get to see if she was smarter than me.

I pitched them. Didn't want my kids to ask me the questions so I wouldn't look dumb.

I would say that Froome was decending like a stone, but stones don't drop that fast. Even more crazy is that Peter Sagan descended at at least 97 Kph (60+) and possibly even faster when he was rejoining the group in yesterday's stage. That dude is one crazy bike handler.

That's a quick way to load a bike. Mad skills to do stuff like that.

Kottman was kind of a grumpy bugger in lecture (Full disclosure I only had him for 1 class) but I enjoyed him, thought he was a pretty good instructor.

Well wish me well time to try the 4 hill route 2 chilled water bottles to take and a quart of water cooling in the fridge for when I get back. Damn I'm not looking forward to this.

I only had him for one class, but his tests sure made me make sure I was prepared. Most instructors you could figure out what was important to them and what you needed to study for their tests. For Kottman, you'd better just study everything.
