2016 Rio Summer Olympics

The only good thing about the Winter Olympics is hockey. The only good thing about the summer olympics is that they only happen once every 4 years.

I actually enjoy watching some of the sports I would never watch. For some reason watching ping pong, swimming, speed skating, and curling are fun to watch during the Olympics

Love the Olympics. Wouldn't get nearly as into it if they were every year but get pretty pumped to watch sports I would never watch any other time. Think it's the whole international competition aspect that gets me going. Hardly watch soccer for instance but when the US is playing in the World Cup or any meaningful tournament, I won't miss it if I can help it. Not really a flag waving 'Merica **** yeah type but want to see our athletes do well when the entire world is watching. That and I like to pretend I know how to judge gymnastics and synchronized diving :)

I'm surprised to see all of the Olympics hate. Sports and patriotism. What is there not to love? I start looking forward to the Olympics a year in advance each time.

Bob Costas.

With the conditions in Brazil I wouldn't be surprised if he decided that he could cover this from back home. Do we really need the daily wrap up guys in Brazil? You can do a lot with green screens. Just look at the moon landing.

Usain Bolt had a hamstring injury trying to qualify for the 100. It will suck if he cannot recover in time.

Sounds like the Jamaican Qualifying rules are different;

http://edition.cnn.com/2016/07/02/sport/usain-bolt-olympics-trials/

The Jamaican athletics federation's regulations provide a way Bolt could run the 100 meters in Rio.

"Athletes who are ranked/listed in the top three in the world for their event who are ill or injured at the time of the national championships and are granted an exemption from competing at the championships may still be considered for selection provided that they are able to prove their world ranking form prior to the final submission of the entries for the competition."

Bolt has not run the 200 meters this year, so it remains unclear if he will be able to run that event at the Olympics if healthy.

Really the only thing I don't like about the Olympics right now is that the IOC decides to go to these places that don't have infrastructure - lots of shady **** goes on - country has all kind of work labor problems- barely get venues finish or done very shoddy- Olympics show up for 2 weeks- place turns into a ghost town post Olympics - area is hardly or never used again.

I really think that the Olympics should rotate between 5-8 countries that already have infrastructure available. Past that general idea I don't have any thoughts on how that gets set up.

Former Cyclone All American Hillary Bor makes the US team in the Steeplechase. Exciting last lap where he went from 5th to 2nd to advance to Rio. That is three former Cyclones going to Rio (Betsy Saina and Mo Hrezi in the marathon also advanced).

Tina Hillman finished 9th in the SP yesterday and freshman Katie Hall (announced transfer in April to Georgia) finished 10th in the LJ. Ed Kemboi did not make the Kenyan team in the 800
