Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

Speaking of workplace safety last night. The quarry I briefly worked at last year had never really got in trouble for safety stuff but a new manager dude was strict on safety. That was kind of interesting to watch his fight with guys who had been there for years (some decades) and get them to wear hard hats.

The teenage daughter got out of school early and had some time to kill before the bus came. She asked to go out to lunch with the boyfriend. We responded that it was OK as long as she texted us when she got to the restaurant (5-8 Club for you Twin City burger enthusiasts) and sent a picture to prove she was there. She did this and then ran into a friend of ours at the restaurant that is a deputy police chief and a bunch of his cop friends. We have spies everywhere.

Juicy Lucy ftw.

And then there's our devil trees....

Is that a lovely Russian olive tree? I've got a couple of them dangerous buggers.

Lion's Tap > 5-8 Club

Pretty sure I just saw Dog the Bounty Hunters gay twin brother. He looked just like him, and dressed kind of like him, except all of his leather was pink and he was carrying a gigantic stuffed purple teddy bear.

He's right. But I've never seen one like that.

I'm standing at the base of the tree looking up to take the picture, so that's actually starting about 6-7 feet above the ground. I've noticed the thorns tend to cluster on one side of the trunk on a given tree...not much directionality to it, though.

I watched that movie last night!

I am so bloody suggestible...

Yesterday someone mentioned Snakes on a Plane, and I ended up watching it. Tonight I'm going to go home and watch another campy movie because someone said "Never Give Up", and someone else responded with...????

(rep to the first person who gets the quote & the movie right...)

There's some money in walnuts as long as they're wide and straight enough.

Where were you when we had to drop one? We had a large walnut - no rot or anything, fairly straight. When we built up the slope for the garagemahal, it was in the way so we had to take it out. We called a bunch of different places - most of them said they'd take it if we dropped it off. Nobody wanted the wood. So we cut it into big chunks, and we use them for "stools" out by the fire pit. :)

Hmm. I'm surprised no one wanted it. The guy that buys walnut logs from us is out of Dubuque. All I know is there has to be at least 10-12 inches of dark wood in the log, and a minimum length of 8 feet of straight wood. If there's any metal in it, perceived by bluing in the wood, they won't take it.
