Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

The beauty of being a semi-retired ad hoc hourly guy. Sent an email in earlier today saying I won't be in but would be for a part day tomorrow. This all ends after next month when I become a fully retired 100% all day/all night man-o-leisure.

I love my Lasik.
I was about 8.75 like BC. Contacts just get to be a daily pain and whenever you travelled you had to remember to bring your glasses along for the end of the day or you're sitting in a hotel looking at a blur.
I can read casually as long as I have decent light. I keep a pair of glasses in the car for driving at night.

Sure I will need to carry about cheaters at some point but I am so much happier now.

Bought 3 packs of chicken breasts last night at Hy Vee. Got home and got the Weber set up for smoking. Opened the first package of chicken and instantly knew it had turned bad. Checked the other two and they were both bad.

Had to run over to the Bakers by me to buy more chicken breast. At least it was on sale. Got everything in and the temperature steady. Packed up all the bad chicken and ran over to Hy Vee. Was standing waiting at customer service and a woman walks in and looks at me and says "You get bad chicken too?" She was holding a bag with a package of chicken she had just bought. She said she could smell it as soon as she got in the car.

Spoiled chicken is enough to put you off chicken for a while. Can't believe you still wanted chicken after opening those. Ack!

I feel bad because I could tell she also felt bad and tried to stay on her side as much as possible.

It's frustrating for sure, but I'd rather sit next to someone nice who maybe took up a little bit of my space than ever having to sit next to another skinny girl that brought stinky pickled beets and fish on a flight...from seattle to honolulu.

Someone actually brought that on a plane?

Just pruned my three columnar white pines on the property line between my house and neighbor whose wife seems to hate me. The house is nonconforming and sets like 7 feet from the line. Super awesome neighbor that I am I prune these trees so they screen our pads from each other but don't encroach into their property much. A super awesome neighbor like me really should have super awesome people next door.

Nice job. You may be able to give 'scaping tips to Pants.

On Saturday, husband gets to sit outside between at least 12p and about 5p. Might get a small reprieve, but fairly small.
We have a baseball tourney this weekend and will be out in it from 5:30-8:30 Friday and again on Saturday from 10:00 - 5:30 (with about a 1.5 hour break in the middle). I s'pose I better pack some deodorant for everybody's sake being that the tournament is about an hour away.

He's on the roof, I'm in the kitchen. The baby coons are on the deck. Didn't you see my pictures? Get your mind out of the gutter.
You did it on the gutter?

Janesville getting a Five Guys. Will have to try it.
My favorite quick service burger, great fries and complimentary peanuts.

An hour and 10 minutes to go 33 miles.
In a plane? Did you fly to Seattle in this? Is so, that is awesome.

So I'm not skinny or in shape by any means, however, next to me in the airplane sat a lady that was easily 350-400lbs. I have no idea how she was able to get her butt in the seat, but she was definitely spilling over to my side. Made all 4 hours of my flight that much more uncomfortable, as I was kind of leaning to the side the entire flight. My neck and back are now sore.
I was recently on a flight in which my row consisted of three men. At 6'2 I was easily the shortest of the three. We may as well have interlocked our legs. It might have seemed weird but it would have been more comfortable.

I heard it. She was good, and she had her own original song. That made an impact for people. That whole thing about anonymity she had going will resonate with people.

It was Howie Mandel that pushed the gold button. Simon lamented that it wasn't him, but that's just nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.

I wasn't paying that close of attention - Lew said "he pushed the gold button" and I looked over & Simon was talking, so ooops! My bad.

I don't mean to downgrade her efforts - I give her major props for getting up there & doing that. I just didn't think she had as good a voice as everyone else seems to think she does.

I get the cute factor and the other things you mentioned, but for me, the spit test is "would I pay to sit & listen to her for an hour?" There aren't very many acts past some of the really good song/dance groups and a few of the comedians & magicians that pass that test for me. Kids almost never get past that point for me...I sat through my fair share of concerts when mine were growing up. AND GET OFF MY LAWN!!! ;)

I thought you had more of a forest than a lawn. :v_SPIN:

I thought you had more of a forest than a lawn. :v_SPIN:

There's about a 5x10' patch out front next to the house, then a gully, then a larger area that actually often ends up being meadow more than lawn...the deer & ground hogs love it. If we keep that mowed close like a lawn the deer don't differentiate between it and the house & my hosta garden. Longer grasses in meadow = better survival for what few flowers I can coax!

You can see our back "yard" behind Lew & the baby coons - there's a steep slope down to the creek. You're actually looking at the canopy of the trees in the background. The deck is level with the main portion of the house, but the edge of it is about 3 feet off the ground. Goat has seen our lawn & meadow...but it was winter when he was there.
