On our eastern Caribbean cruise in 2010 it was just PapaLew & I (no family cruised with us that time). We were seated with a wealthy New York maven & her henpecked hubby (newly retired and relocated to Miami), a dude & his "trophy" (read: golddigger) wife, a fairly normal couple from North Dakota (or maybe South Dakota), and us. The maven decided it was her table & her rules. Everything was about "what do you do...how much do you make...where are your jewels", etc. We survived one night of her & golddigger comparing bling and looking down their noses at us midwestern/plains state hicks with normal amounts of bling. She was horrified that I don't own ANY diamonds, by choice. I don't like them, I don't like how they are obtained & distributed - they're overpriced hunks of carbon, IMO. And yes, I told her my opinion (I had had quite enough of her condescension at that point). Turns out hubby made their dough in the diamond business.
We passed on dessert. We ate the rest of our meals in the Windjammer (RC's casual dining). The third night out, we saw the Dakota couple there as well...turns out HE had enough after the second night. Too bad the two hubbies had to stay with their snobby *******...they probably would have had more fun in the Windjammer with the rest of us!
