Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

New thing to add to the 'make sure to teach' list.

I had a small discussion about a clock toy. One person said that we shouldn't get one since it will probably be all digital by the time she really needs to read one. First time I heard someone say 'analog clock'

I am really close to locking up all of the digital clocks in the closet in our house. My 11 year old will constantly ask what time it is when she can see an analog clock but can't see a digital one. I have failed as a parent. My 8 year old can tell time better than she can.

Same thing for puppies.

Housebreaking is NOT going well.
I'm currently trying to get our Border Collie pup housebroken. He FINALLY started sleeping fully through the night this past weekend (we've had him 4 weeks). No more waking up every 2-3 hours to let him out.

He knows not to use his crate. Now only if I can get him to treat the house the same as he treats his crate....

We had digital clocks when my boys were toddlers. The only analog clock we had was one from Germany that went around backwards. The older one had some concept of time, but couldn't tell it from an analog clock until he started at a new daycare that had one on the wall. They taught him.

The other "things to learn" - velcro was sooooooo easy, all their shoes had velcro fasteners. It never occured to me to teach them how to tie shoelaces. I think their uncle helped them with that.

:embarrassed:

How old is the puppy?

Border Collie's are the smartest dogs in the world. I'm not lowering my expectations. He better ****ing learn to speak English.

Feed him alphabet soup. It worked for her:

My daddy would agree with you. They used Border Collies on the ranch. He was always bragging them up.
There's this guy in Wales that uses 2 Border Collies for his sheep. Only uses whistles to get the dogs to do what he wants and a different pitch for each dog.

12 weeks. Sometimes he's got the "hey, I need to go outside" thing down. Or I'll force him to go outside. Other times, he'll just go take a dump on the floor and not say a word.

Whatever you do, don't tell Nickels it only took two days for your dog to learn. You'll be in the doghouse.

I've seen that video before - I LOVE it! Especially when they play pong. :)
My in laws raise turkeys and have to "herd" them to move them to different buildings or to be loaded. So I'm gonna start trying to teach mine to herd soon. He does a pretty good job of herding his tennis balls when we throw all 6 at once.

It's instinctive for them. Kip (the last one remaining before my grandparents sold the ranch when I was a teenager) used to try to herd my sisters & cousins & I around the home section.
