Have I ever told you all my 5 Guys story? Too bad, I'm telling you again.

We were out and about and my son fell asleep in the car. We decided to get something to eat and Mrs. Velo suggested 5 Guys. I had never been to one - really I had never even heard of one - but I was game. I slung my out cold 3 year old over my shoulder and went in. It was overcast and just after dusk so we went from dark and quiet outside to bright and noisy inside. My son woke up looked around and promptly vomited whatever bright red drink he had been drinking before he went to sleep all over me and my Cyclone leather jacket. We obviously got our meals to go.

This was like 5 years ago but I can't see or go into a 5 Guys without this experience immediately coming to mind.

Now is when you type TL;DR.
The Grand Casinos used to run commercials with real people telling their "Grand Casino" stories about how they won a big jackpot and fell in love or something like that.

One summer, we were coming home from the in-laws cabin on Highway 169. My son was in the back seat of our mini van and got some motion sickness. He threw up into a plastic bag that we happened to have with us. The smell was awful so we had to pull over and the only place nearby was the Grand Casino Mille Lacs. We pulled up to the curb of the casino and I walked my son into the casino and right into the bathroom so he could finish with his illness and I could dispose of the sick bag. We walked out of the bathroom and I asked an attendant if we could get a cup of water from the pop dispensers. She said "OK." That was the only time I had visited a Grand Casino. That is my Grand Casino story.

woof, that demoncore thread. If you spend half the thread arguing with people and trying to convince them that it IS funny..........it's not.

Not directly at you, but in general....I mean, the guy researches serial killers in his free time for fun, let's not be surprised that he has an abnormal sense of what's okay/not okay. Not condoning it, but also not going to actually argue with the guy.

Every now & again you come across inexpensive mom & pop diners that serve fresh hamburgers, with hand-pressed patties. If you find them, you remember them. The difference between a patty hand-pressed from fresh meat and a flat, pre-pressed, previously frozen burger patty is worth every extra penny you pay for fresh-pressed. Unfortunately, the diners tend to disappear because they can't compete with the speed & cheapness of the chains. :(

Some people draw the line farther than others do. I don't really think it has to do with researching serial killers.

That's why I try to support the mom & pop type places as much as possible.

Don't you hate it when someone you've known for years sends you a facebook friend request and it turns out they are one of those people that has to share every stinking article they read online.

The obvious solution is to delete your Facebook account and then burn your computer. Problem solved.

I prefer beating it baseball bats ala Office Space.

No, I don't....because that's reason 5,382,674 that I don't have facebook.
The only reason I have it is because my sisters wanted me to have it. Stupid #*&%* family

You just perfectly described Breitbachs which now makes me want to go up to Ball Town.

I like the Facebook. It's got it's pros and cons but pros way outweigh cons for me.

Con: New FB friend is wife half of a couple I have know since HS. My newsfeed is filled with her stuff. It's not junk by any means, just too much.

Pro: Keeping up with what the nieces are up to since I don't see them much. Double plus for new grandniece pics since I haven't even seen her in person yet (Ohio). BTW, her head of hair rivals Baby GTO's!

Con: Having to discipline myself not to post some things because not everyone would get it or might be offended. Mix of family, friends and casual acquaintances are not really ready for Full Boxster mode. Nope.

Pro: Finding out about friends you have not stayed that close to since college/HS. Did not know old college roomie writes horror movie reviews for online sites.

Con: Finding out some of your old HS friends are fascists.

Pro: Food porn! Like the pictures here that 2015 and Birdy post.

Con: Cats. Enough said.

Pro: Puppies!

Pro: Throwback pictures. Seeing young adult pictures of friends you didn't meet till later in life is a hoot.

This reminds me that I need to go try stellas.

*Balltown. Also sometime check Kalmes' restaurant in St. Donatus. Nearer side of DBQ for you, on the way to Bellevue. Both are hidden gems. Breitbach's is a little less 'hidden', I guess.

These are the best! There's a few around here but I have to leave Tyler and go to a few nearby towns to find them.

I wish Mrs. Velo was more adventurous in trying the greasy spoons. In my experience you encounter many more diamonds in the rough then bad dining experiences.

I thought I would follow up on the no-response women topic from last weekend. The one I'm really interested in ended up texting me Monday asking if I wanted to hang out. Of course I say yes and then I end up finding out that she never got my text asking her to dinner and was wondering if I didn't like her or something. Apparently she has terrible cell phone service at her apartment.

Anyways, after hanging out on Monday we made dinner plans for tonight but now she's sick and I have the onset of whatever she has...

But it was worth it.
