I will admit to wearing both an ISU shirt and shorts a good chunk of the time. I got them for free in school and they still fit/are not falling apart which fits my requirements. Oh and I also usually wear the same stuff over and over...it gets worn, washed and put on top. Grab what is on top and repeat.

Male question. I have followed a "male rule" since I was in junior high. My friends and I did this. We would not wear two pieces of clothing from the same team unless attending an event for them. Like I can't wear an isu hat with an isu sweatshirt. I will sometimes wear an isu shirt under a pull over if Both won't be the seen.

My son started doing this on his own a couple years ago and my wife didn't understand. She would jump him about not matching. I finally stuck up for him after a couple times and said this a a boy thing. Is this something unique to my small area or do others do this?

Sports Bro Wear 101 here folks. Not sure how anyone is questioning this.

So people are silently judging me when I wear my Cyclone stocking cap with my Cyclone hooded sweatshirt?

And all along I thought the judging looks were because I was wearing them with khakis and old running shoes!

No judging. I don't notice it on anybody else. Just something I do myself.

Bawbie, I think I'd give a pass for the stocking hat, unless you're going hipster and wearing it inside.

The philosophy is that if you're head to toe in one team gear, it looks like you're wearing a uniform or something, and that you're on the team or part of the organization. Since you're not, it's like you're playing dress-up. Kids can play dress up, a grown-*** man should not. An exception is given for game days when you're not in the general public, but I'll admit I'd even struggle with feeling weird getting to and from the game that way.

WX: as a student manager in college, you'd be fine. As a grown-*** man, you're not. :pwink:

Really-though...to each his own, but personally, I do think it looks more grown-up to be a little more subtle than going full on with the 'walking billboard' look. I'd even be hesitant to wear an ISU shirt with a cardinals hat, I think I'd just do one or the other.

For clarification, though....just to be wearing a Cardinals' hat in general would be questionable to me...just used that team because it was mentioned as "matching" ISU stuff with red.

Before Cubs fans hit the like, y'ain't any better. Although I'm not a baseball fan, I'd hang with Chaser there.

I agree and I am working on it. Honestly when I do wear that stuff it is either for working out, working around the yard or just hanging around the house.

Some guidelines.

Below: Not okay if heading over to Home Depot.

Extreme but okay if your sister is on the gymnastics and you wear this to the meet. Embarrassing his sister might have been this guy's goal anyway.

Appropriate level of ISU wear if biking the lakes.

If, and only if, on an ISU group ride you may add more so ISU riders will know where to meet up.

Thanks for the guidance. This is exactly the kind of thing we government employees look for when making decisions. Also, we would expect this to totally change in 6 months with little notice and no new guidance.

I've seen my husband do both...match and not match. Is it really that big of a deal? Then again, my husband is nearly ALWAYS wearing a hat. (As long as it's not work/church/kinda-sorta fancy-ish restaurant)

Just guidelines, not law, regulation etc. It ain't codified.

Yet.

Can someone please go bomb the Bubu thread and send it to the cave before we have to rehash that **** on the front page of CF all summer.

It's bad enough that the resident football idiot savants have returned with their assured 100% ironclad knowledge of all things ISU.

I'd be curious to hear everyone's thoughts on mismatching sports teams clothing from different sports at the same time. I know I wear Iowa State shirts or shorts with Cubs or Packers items all the time.

Yeah...but you're the dad. You won't like ANY guy that wants to date your daughter.

This is true at first but not universally. At some point you look at all of the bad choices your daughter made or could have made and you are happy when she makes a good choice.

To be fair it may actually end up somewhere between liking him and accepting him as the lesser of evils.
