Random Thoughts VII 'Merica (RTTVII)

A "sponsored" post for an area realty company popped up in my FB feed, advertising a "REDUCED PRICE" house in the area. It was still a nice chunk of money for this area, so I looked at the pictures. At first, I couldn't place my finger on why I didn't like it. It felt "country kitsch", but the decorating didn't lend itself to that. I finally realized that the wooden trim on the entryways matched the wooden floor matched the kitchen cabinets matched the wooden doors matched the bookshelves/other wooden furniture. Ugh. Plus, I THINK the walls were that boring pale yellow. (Although the lighting sucked) I get to the master bath, and cringe. That whole thing would have to be torn up and redone for my tastes. Stupid salon lighting with 3 lightbulbs over the sink. I have that in my apartment now...I just deal.

So, I think this house is built in the late 90's/early 2000's. Nope! 2009. Good grief.

Okay...CG moment over.

Now I'm curious to see the house!

Yeah, I kind of am too.

And Sara this isn't directed at you because it sounds like there was a lot more wrong with the house, but it always annoys me on shows like house hunters where the people walk into a house, like everything about it, but spend the entire time ******** about the paint, because that's a really easy fix and a stupid reason to turn the house down imo. Also, bonus points if they're a young couple who are looking at houses way too expensive for them who are doing it

no, middle-aged guy. It was some kinda guy perfume stuff that stunk. Had to be him because no one else was in yet. Haven't smelled it before so hoping this is a one time thing.

I Always buy the cheapest shampoo. Couple times it was axe. Maybe he did a full body wash .

No. No. No. No. No. I'm saying he's functional, practical and environmentally conscious and, with the right companion and accessories he can be somewhat stylish. I'm comparing him more to IKEA than a sack of ****.

I love Ikea.

oh yeah, my office smelled like Axe this morning when I walked in. Coworker (who was here) better not have started wearing that ****.

No......I'm reading it like a hot dog. A bunch of waste material packed together to be something useful .
This is a pretty good description too and it probably describes how he is seen by many outside of our little community here. A raw, yet athletic hot dog with pedigree.

******** moment.

My niece is getting married memorial day weekend in Lincoln. My step-sister (we don't get along) sent me a text today saying that she didn't know if her mom and my dad would be able to make it, unless someone were to go get them, and take them back home.

It's a 4.5 hour drive back home.

Guess who she's wanting to do this? Me.

It's between me, and my step-mom's sister, that lives 10 minutes from them, by she evidently just had surgery and may not be able to do it.

My response to her was that I could probably go get them, but I'd have to take time off (lost money) and that I didn't want to put a trip there, back here, a trip back home, and then back to Omaha on my car (which is leased). I'd be out around $200 from not working at BWW that weekend, and then gas money on top of it. So I said that I'd be willing to go get them, but someone else would need to take them back.

Her reponse "well obviously, we'd be too busy so Carole (aunt with surgery) would have to do it.

Seriously?

I can understand that she'll be busy prior to the wedding, even the day after. But two days after? You can't drive your own mother back to Iowa, who is there for your daughter's wedding?

I kind of just want to mail my gift and not have to go to Lincoln now.

this is so not your problem. Why are they planning to be so busy the day after/2 days after? Hell my family was doing their own thing the next day.

Ours we around when we opened gifts but other than that everyone went their own way.

It does sound like they want a free taxi service for her mother. If the two of you were close, I might understand it more. As it reads here though...well, Cinderella comes to mind.

At the very least she should offer to cover the gas...

some do that, for sure. We skipped it. I would assume if her niece is doing this, that the grandparents would stick around for gift opening. But when that's done, what else are the parents expecting to be so busy with?

Bingo. And the fact that she didn't at least start off with "I'll cover your gas" shows the lack of consideration for 55's time and money.
