Hey everybody, I'm making cookies! I would totally send some to the IRS if I thought that would make my refund come quicker. Not going to happen. :(

i have two goals this week. Hopefully get to more than 2 exercise classes and to have Z help me make banana muffins.

IPERS (Iowa's public employee retirement service) had a 16 quarter vestment until 2012. If you weren't vested then, it became 28 quarters. If I graduated college in 09 and had 3 years in ID be ticked. With one year left they added 3 more years to you.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I work for a retirement company. I've taken thousands of calls over the last three years, and I can't think of one where a pension has been immediately vested. Doesn't mean it can't happen, but it certainly isn't the norm. Pensions aren't even that common anymore, most companies just have a 401k with vesting that goes anywhere from immediate to 6 years.

I got more hung up on the "completely vested through two internships" thing. I suppose it could happen, but I can't think of a company that would completely vest an intern. Interns are dung, the bottom of the barrel.

(Can I also just say a targeted Amex offer is just a piece of mail. That's all it is. Also, I did ask other forums and they scoffed I would even ask with that sign up bonus. Basically no answers at all and I wanted a different opinion)

You double down and get sensitive when someone picks on you. That's the reaction that just feeds the frenzy, right or wrong.

I disagree. Depends on what the benefits are and what they are worth to you. Though I haven't signed up for a card that hasn't waived the first year's fee.

There was an engineering thread and I made some comments about Business being better. I was drowned in a storm of posts. I kept going and caught a lot of **** for it. A lot of it deservedly so.

32 of the 50 top companies in the S&P 500 have 100% immediate vesting. So I think it is becoming pretty common.

As for being an intern and getting it, I think it was easier to just classify interns as regular employees in the ERP system than to have a totally separate bucket for them with a totally different set of rules. That's entirely a guess though.

I looked up my pension account, I am/was 60% vested. So you got me there.
 
Engineers thing...I technically wasn't an engineering major, but I have an engineering certification by an industry society, and my title has always been Engineer, except when it's been Manager, but I say that I am one of the less nerdy engineers (although, I readily admit to being nerdy, just on the lesser side). Was in a design focused facility up north yesterday and went into a bathroom...was U shaped, with an entrance on only one leg of the U, so you had to walk past all the sinks, around the bend of the U, where there was a row of urinals on one side, and a row of stalls on the opposite side. Thought to myself, this is the most screwed up layout I've ever seen...then I thought, "yeah, but the self conscious design engineers in here who can't pee with anyone watching probably love it."
 
Best accidental compliment I've received in a while...mrs00 spent the afternoon with friends, I had the boys by myself. She comes home and after pleasantries, asks where we went. I said nowhere. She says "where'd that bread come from?" I replied "from the oven". I had made a loaf of garlic herb bread, it looked so nice she was convinced it had to be store bought.
 
If you want the card 15,then get it. It looks like your looking for justification more than anything. Said you asked another place and everyone scoffed. Then said no one here gave an opinion and when I do you say how it's off. If you think it's a deal go for it. I just.don't see the 435 dollars of value in it. Credit card companies aren't not for profit, so to offer this, they are making money in the long run.

I think the mistake is thinking that poster has been with anyone not named "right hand" or "left hand".


see, 2015 may humblebrag but I'll take that in an instant over "my mommy and daddy give 25,000 a year to the university so I'm so much better than you" type posters.

Misc randomness:

Michelle Wie is wearing leopard print Nike high toppers in the ANA tournament today. High toppers, man, not the usual LPGA look. :)

French wine, Norwegian cheese, smoked salmon of unknown origin, french-style bread and Belgium cookies for supper. International night.

I am boycotting the 2nd NCAA game tonight. **** those academic cheating bastards in baby blue.
 
Just taking a survey. Should I be humble bragging more, less, or about the same amount?
