More new coaches confirmed...

Plus only have 1 offensive coach spot left so the OC will have to coach QBs. That closes the Sage Seneca possibility for now unless they agree to be GAs.

I know it's very common in college, but I didn't think the Coordinator also had to be a position coach..

A coordinator doesn't have to be a position coach, but you are only allowed so many paid assistants so if your coordnator isn't coaching a position you are asking another coach to double up on position groups.

Rumor has it most of the Missouri staff is looking elsewhere. If Campbell doesn't have a DC yet Kuligowski is looking for an upgrade. Also Cornell Ford who recruited St Louis for many years (defensive backs coach) and Andy Hill who recruited Kansas City (receivers and qb coach) would be worth kicking the tires on.

I heard Chip Kelly may be looking for a job soon. If Campbell recruits coaches like he does players, he has probably already offered him

I really want him to take a shot at Michigan States DC. His father coached Campbell at Mt Union so maybe it isn't as far fetched as it seems?

Effects reps too. Can't cycle as many drills with one less position coach.

Interesting how much I'm hearing about doing less recruiting in Texas . . . particularly things like on the FAWcast about not taking so many "riders" on guys from Texas who don't have offers from other schools in Texas . . . and Tom Farniok's tweet. It all seems to be playing into the coaching emphasis that is not nearly as much focused on Texas as we used to say was of utmost importance. I'm still not so sure that we have enough recruiting presence in Texas. It is one thing to not take guys on "riders," but quite another to go after guys who are getting offers from the other Big 12 teams in Texas.

I never understood why we HAD to recruit Texas. Get them from anywhere you can. Who cares where they are from? Texas players are more pampered anyways. Get some kid with an inflated ego from his high school buddies and girlfriends, who lacks toughness when the 'S' hits the fan. Give me a mid-west kid that knows how to put his nose to the grindstone.

This. At least the first part. This isn't twenty years ago where you had three games to choose to watch from. If you're a P5 team at least, every game is being televised somewhere every week. You don't need to be close to recruits parents and families and friends for them to be able to see the recruit play. Quite frankly, it feels a little antiquated to think any differently.

Although it always made sense to me to recruit knowing that you would be playing games close to their home each year.

Right. So you could have your friends and family see you play more. Which they can do every game now no matter where you're at due to extensive game coverage.

Uhh, watching on TV is not the same as family and friends being part of the weekend . . . like they have been for the last few years of high school.

It's not, but if you're going to make your college selection with that as a heavy factor, you really should re-evaluate your priorities.

Exactly. Not saying that I've said this for a while but ive always wondered why we thought we need to try to get the leftovers from what the other Texas teams didn't want. Not saying they aren't good athletes but I really like the approach that the staff is targeting.

I think that is spot on. There have been way too many guys from TX that came here and did not pan out or walked away after a couple years. If you can get some guys that TX, Houston, etc are after instead of beating North Texas and Rice for guys, than do it. If not, you are much better off with Iowa or midwestern guys that will stay in the program and commit development. Don't have any numbers, but I bet the attrition rate of TX guys is way higher than Iowa kids.

Probably 90%+ of recruits will have that as a factor in their decision. Lots of guys from central Texas would love to hear that he'll get a game or two at Baylor/TCU/Texas every year for his family to come to. Don't know why you would discount this preference for others because you personally don't find it important.

I'd love to hear that I'll get a company paid for lunch once a week if I chose it over another. Doesn't mean it's going to be a deciding factor.
