****Official Class of 2016 Recruiting Thread****

Shoot, I'm coming in with very low expectations for next year 2016 - 2017 (providing Monte doesn't return). Love our recruiting class, but we just don't have enough returning guys to come in with any type of expectations. The way I see it is that if we can somehow squeak our way into the tourney that year, I'd be ecstatic and it would be a very positive sign for the future. I'm just not realistically expecting too much more than that. Now, if Monte were to return, obviously my expectations would change.

I'll bet anybody $100 that we don't win 25 games next year and be overjoyed to pay it.

Until we add some more pieces, we're probably looking at a bubble team ceiling, IMO

I think we will be better than what people think. Call it continuity or what. The system of FH and SP makes good things happen. SP may have less offense, but he will have better defense. I just think the only B12 team year in and year out with talent will remain KU. I see OSU and OU starting over next year too. I remain unworried about KSU, TT, TCU, and maybe even Baylor and UT. That said, UT has possibility of becoming a juggernaut is Shaka has a good run.

I wish I had some kool-aid like you. We have been spoiled, Fred was the rumpelstilskin of BB he found a way to weave gold with anything. 2 this will be ratings wise the lowest talent team we have had in a while. We have had 4-6 4* on our roster each of the last few years and next year. We will have just 3 next year unless we add a couple or some get upgraded. So we will be young and less talented. We may be good but it shouldn't be expected.

Matt, Burton, Malou, (possibly Jackson, possibly Monte). We'll be in the 4-6 range again in '16-17

I don't think you can assume the defense will be better. Look at his Murray State teams and you will see that besides his first year they were pretty bad defensively. I hope ISU plays better defense bc they have guys that can be good defensively but I am going to wait and see on Prohm's defensive coaching ability.

I'm pretty sure SP is putting a lot of time on defense (results TBD).

In virtually all the sickly games of last year, it was the offense that stunk it up.

That's true..but off nights on offense are unavoidable. There isn't a team in the country that won't have nights that they struggle to put the ball in the hole.

The key is to rebound and defend good enough to battle your way through those nights, which didn't happen against UAB, Texas Tech, or South Carolina.

In the Big 12 tourney, we didn't play great on offense, but we defended well enough to keep us in the games and grind out W's.

Whether they get out and run, or play in the half court, all championship teams defend and rebound.

Our offense is very dependent on grabbing defensive rebounds and putting pressure on the opposing defense. When we speed the game up, there are few teams that can match our passing and shooting.

We were going to take a step back next season regardless of who the coach was. I'm not going to panic about it when Prohm hasn't coached game 1 of this team yet. 30 wins and a deep run in the tourney will go a long ways in boosting our recruiting. I'm not saying I expect that, but that is the ceiling this team has. Besides, Malou and Jackson should be very good replacements and who knows who we land in the spring. Another DeAndre Kane may be out there somewhere. Guys like Monte and Georges don't come around for us too often.

Never thought about it that way before, but you are right. Maryland, UAB, South Carolina did seem like offensive woes.

You might be right about a step back even if Fred was back. Guys matured in a system for the same coach that long were going to be gone for him, too. But I also think fans have in the back of their mind that we might have had Coffey, Williams, 1 or 2 impact 5th yr. transfers, Cook, etc. All 'ifs' of course. What will be most interesting is how these conversations/opinions will be written at the end of this season after watching Prohm at work.

Yes the no rebounding, no FT, no effort, no defense narrative is so ******* stupid. I'd like to get Jon Miller to weigh in on the topic.

That's the key of defensive emphasis though. As someone said before, offensive struggles will happen in a game, and rather than pray that it doesn't happen in a big one, you get to the point where if you're stinking it up on offense, you still have the defensive firepower to grind one out.

I wonder if people realize we were so poor at defense BECAUSE of Hoiball. It's hard to consistently box people out to rebound when your transition offense is specifically built to run the court.

Somewhat, but a good portion was an emphasis to keep the top guys out of foul trouble. Stop transition baskets, and limit shot selection were the primary goals. We were a good defensive rebounding team, but the times where we slipped in that regard, it crushed our defense.

We actually played outstanding defense more often than "poor".

A 25-9 team that was inconsistent, sometimes in execution, sometimes in effort.
