Part of me is scared that this will one day happen to me. Part of me is really excited for where technology is headed that one day this will happen to me.

Ha, this couldn't be any more true. Technology moves so fast it almost feels like you get to an age and just say, **** it, I'm done learning.

I wish I could argue this point, but I really can't. about 10 years ago my sisters & I got a computer for our father for Christmas. We struggled to teach him how to use it. Keep in mind, this man helped put men on the moon...and he couldn't figure out email.

I have learned a lot over the years...new programs, new technology. But I'm finding it increasingly difficult to absorb new things. It will take me weeks to learn something you kids pick up in a half hour. Not much I can do about it, except to try to be good-natured when all y'all tease me about it. :)

also, the cloud was a confusing concept to me at first. So were touchscreens. So I'm going to be DH's worst nightmare as I get older than the old lady cross stitcher I am now.

I started last night.

Home inspection went well. Now let's see how much they will fix!

hey! weatherman! No rain on Saturday! I have an afternoon of classy musical followed by an evening of entertaining downtowning with mah friends! No rain!

I had a realization last night talking to DH that his dad has had internet access for a solid 10 years longer than I have (internet at home, I mean). And yet I'm not the one giving out my cc info to scammers and allowing them to remote into my computer. Like, I get it taking longer to "get" new tech, but man.

And I used to think my dad was a lil paranoid for thinking it was cray to keep financial info on your computer cause the gov will get at it.

Heh, funny how that works.

I enjoy those calls. Favorite so far: "You're computer is at risk and we'd like to help."

Really? I have 4, so which one is at risk?

(Phone hangs up)

:spinny:

I've used a computer since I was 4 in 1990. Straight up homie.

I believe my generation was the first generation to start using computers throughout our entire time in school. I don't think my older brother started until 4th grade. But when I say "use" I mean playing Oregon Trail during recess and typing "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" on the green screen Macs in English.

Mine went really well when I purchased, but in the 40 or so days between it happening and the closing the dishwasher and disposal both went to ****. I don't really mind the disposal because I had planned on putting in a new sink anyways and that was always going to get replaced, but the dishwasher sucks. My plan has been to turn this into a rental in a few years but I am not sure if I should stay in the $200-$300 range to replace it or get one that I really want.

Oregon Trail...then later on it was the Yukon Trail. So many games...

we had appleII c's on carts starting in 5th grade that they'd roll around to whatever room had them that period.

The first computer I used took up an entire (very cold) room and had tapes. The second one was a Decwriter (baskically a typewriter attached to a campus mainframe). We also had a Wang word processor in that office. The next job, I use a data recorder (a second gen keypunch style machine). I bundled the cards & walked them over to Durham before lunch. After lunch I would go back to Durham and pick up my printout. Moved from there to an Apple III where we merged ascii files and sent them via hard-wire to the mainframe in Durham. In 1991 I got my first PC at work and was able to compute and print the reports IN MY OFFICE. Damn, that was great!!!

Now, if you didn't understand some of those terms, then welcome to my world. :)

I will put in a good word.

The water heater on our house in KS started leaking between when we moved out and the inspection. Thankfully the company we listed with covers it under a home warranty for the time it is listed so we were just out $75.

The sellers of this house are buying us a warranty so I am hoping something goes wrong with the water heater (26 years old) or the heater (18 years old) in the next year.

I've met one or two wang processors in my time.

Only thing I got out of that post was the "wanna play with my Wang" jokes.

First confuser I ever used was a Wang that you loaded engineering programs into via cassette tapes at Smith-Voorhees-Jensen right after I was out of school. That dot matrix printer though!

I don't know what's going on over on the football board, but I THINK it involves a lot of people pretending like they know something with nobody actually knowing anything.
