It's my home computer, and the geek squad has been working on it for about a week now. No luck. What has PapaLew so ticked off is the fact that if your car dies, you don't have to buy a brand new one...you can buy an older model for less money and still have it supported by the manufacturer. Cell phones & computers, though...they last one to three years then you have to buy a brand new one. I suppose I should feel greatful that I got nearly five years out of this one.

My guess is it overheated, probably due to all of the cat hair clogging the cooling fan.

Went to back my files up last and my WD port drive had fried. WTF? Use it only for backups maybe once a quarter and it poops it's circuits?

also, printers suck. Really really really suck.

oh, for some reason I read it as your work computer but that makes more sense. Did you have the bookmarks saved in a browser? I use Chrome at both work and home and because I'm logged into Google, I can see the bookmarks in both locations.

As you get started again, I really like Google Drive for keeping all that stuff. I figure since it's just lists of trees we like, stuff we put into spreadsheets for the house and pics of random stuff............and no nudes, that it's safe from the likes of mctall and nude celebrity photo seekers.

Soooo...Tallperson...can you?
you are going to have to buy a new one, but you should be able to buy a SATA to USB cable and plug that into your new computer to retrieve the data on it. You may not be able to get your bookmarks (if you never saved a backup of them) but you should be able to get everything else. The cord should cost $15 or so.

The nudes go straight to Photobucket, huh?

I had the opportunity to "sync" stuff, but I'm not real confident with that. I use Firefox on all my devices, but I have had to establish the primary bookmarks on each device. All of the travel emails and travel bookmarks were on my desktop (the one that died). *sigh*

I'm going to contact Mediacom tomorrow to see if my emails can be recovered off of their servers or anything. I have a feeling I'm just SOL.

Is it too early to start drinking heavily and listening to "All the Way" by Eddie Vedder on repeat?

I thought this was only a cliche but I literally just saw someone with a cart full of baby formula pay for it with food stamps and get into a Cadillac Escalade with rims. I thought that was only a right-wing stereotype but good golly I just saw it.

I'm mad at myself for even thinking this but wow, I understand why you would get frustrated. One person can ruin it for all

When the hell did I become WDSM?

My grandpa told the story of their wedding photo. In the photo, he's sitting down and she's standing up. When people asked why he tells them, "The wedding was on a Monday night, and we our picture taken on Tuesday. I was too tired to stand up and she was too sore to sit down."
