Lanning?

People realize we still have Grant right? I mean the guy won multiple big 12 games two years ago and will be a senior next year. I think the real question is why is Grant not getting any playing time if Lanning can't seem to complete a pass?

I'm glad Grant is a cyclone and hope he stays on the team. He however is not the answer at quarterback. He played significantly and struggles mightily with accuracy.

He also isn't a good enough runner to make teams pay either.

Thx, Paul.

I've heard some of the same about Lanning and I still think SR is better, even though he played poorly last week.

I'm less concerned about our QB and more concerned about our defense (who just gave up a school record for yards) with TCU and Baylor coming up the next two weeks.

Like many of the others that have posted already, I am getting tired of picks and bad throws. Sam doesn't pull the ball down and run when he should and he takes a sack rather than throwing the ball away (and not to a defender). I am willing to let Lanning have a shot. What do we have to loose? As for the defense, blitz once in a while and put some pressure on their quarterback. If Wally doesn't want to blitz and wants to give 10 yard cushions without a bump and go first, you are exactly right. We will not do any better the next two weeks. I don't think the 3 man rush has hurt us as much as many think. Even with 3 rushers we are only a step away from a sack. I would much rather get beat on a route than to give them cushions and use a linebacker or corner for a blitz once in a while.

Given how different that is from years past it is clear that's a coaching decision. If they wanted Sam to run rather than take a sack he'd be running.

Not sure if this has been asked or not in other threads but the past 2 weeks I have been saying just like most of us to put in Lanning. I have heard numerous times from people that say they have heard he is turrible! Said that his route reading isn't that good, and that if we don't find a JUCO QB we are major trouble for next year (worse than what we already are) I know this would be a great time for him to get experience but from the sounds of it don't expect us to be any better with him.

Anyone here of this?

CARDALE JONES is terrible at route reading. And he won a national title and was possibly going to be the #1 pick.
Lanning and many QBs like him dont need to read a freaking defense. This is WHY WE SUCK! Make the game freaking easy. Boot Legs with 2 options max + running as a third. Play Action that has ONE LOOK. Not open, run the damn ball with your fast large body. FOOTBALL is not hard, and this kind of thinking and coaching pisses me off. Unless you have a QB like California does then reading the field is a stupid idea. NEWS FLASH. Sam Richardson's field reading skills are AWFUL as well.

You think Collin Kap read the field at Nevada? You think Beathard scans the entire field? Jake Ruddick is just scanning defenses now at Michigan and calling his own plays? The KState QB this year and every other year was just like Tom Brady werent they?! O Wait, NOPE.

Even if he can't audible at the line of scrimmage the coaching staff has to be able to help him with that. ESPECIALLY at home where they can control the volume and make him more comfortable.

He can have 3 audibles that make him look like an All Big 12 QB: 1.) Hand off to Warren 2.) QB Keeper 3.) Slant/short pass to Lazard. For years we've called a play only to have the offense check with the sideline before moving on to the snap. You have 10 other guys out there that can help with signals, reading an offense, etc.

No matter what scheme you run, if you give up 776 yards, there is definitely a talent inferiority. Why don't some understand this?

Because that isn't a consistant number. 1 of 5 games was a bad defensive showing. To me, I was screaming at my screen at the constant 10-15 yard cushions on 3rd and 4s as well as the constant 3 man rush that wasn't effective in that game. To me, they should be rushing 4 at least 3 of 4 times rotating a different backer each time to throw off the qb. There was a lot of fear about getting beat deep but when you give the qb over 5-6 seconds to find a receiver, no defense will work.

Didnt people say the same thing about JB? He won 4 of his 8 Big 12 starts.

Didn't Grant have a long TD run in the comeback against WVU? He won two of the last 3 Big 12 wins for ISU. Yes, the KU game was bad but it wasn't all his fault.

My question, are we looking for wins or offensive stats?

After coach Mac left it came out that they limited Meyer to reading the field in 1/3rds. I would take that over the staring down WRs that the last 3 QBs have done to be honest.

Would like to see Todd Fitch make it back here some day.
