Came for the incessant off topic blathering, got actual recruiting news.

That's what makes this thread what it is. For a bit, there is real stuff, it denigrates to crap long enough that opening it is so painful, you don't, then...BOOM! News??? What?

The OT stuff will start back up soon enough, but I'm hoping it stays relevant until mid-week, next week, where we are able to discuss a commitment or two.

ISU is mentioned. It's also interesting that Maker says he wants to see how teams do this year.

Weren't there some serious concerns about his eligibility? Putting the likelihood of him coming to Ames at less than 1%.

Those concerns were when he was planning to graduate in the 2015 class but now he is 2016. Eligibility issues or not though, the chance of him coming to Ames is still about 1%. (Cue "so you're saying there's a chance" memes)

With there being issues over qualifying, why didn't Maker go play ball in China or something for a year like Mudiay did instead of trying to qualify for college? His goal is to be an NBA player so it seems weird that he didn't go that route.

Not sure China ball is better than college ball at this point. More PR being in college. He will make big bucks compared to China when he goes to NBA.

His point was playing in China for a year until he's eligible for the NBA like Mudiay did. So he'd still get those big NBA bucks after preparing against more developed players overseas.

Mudiay did the China route because of qualifying issues and was still a lottery pick. Maker can do the same with how good he is. By not going oversees for a year (Mudiay also made $1mil for it), he's losing out on time and likely a contract similar to Mudiay's of $1mil.

I do think a lot of players enjoy the college experience along with playing in front of America/people they know on Prime Time though, which could make overseas a last resort... Obviously a big contract could change that though.

If given the choice between Long and Norvell, who would you prefer? Norvell has the higher ranking, but Long has some quality offers.

I'd take either. If I had to guess Norvell is probably better offensively but Long is probably better defensively. Both are lefties.

If I had to choose I'd say Norvell

Crystal Ball is the biggest joke out there as those Jacka**es change their prediction with impunity up until the last minute, than claim how accurate they are :twitcy:

I look at it like weather or any kind of forecasting. The closer you get to an event and the more data aND variables are known the more accurate the prediction. Anyone relying on any kind of forecast or prediction 8 months out on anything (much less something the player themselves don't know) is foolish.

Wasn't Maker trying to reclassify to 15' though and came up short? I think he is a normal 2016 recruit that was trying to get ahead and be NBA eligable a year ahead of schedule. Now he is on normal pace. So it isn't really about time it's just about money now. If he left now without a year of college I think he would have to play in China for this year and next. So yeah he is leaving a couple million on the table.

I think it's a wash. They bring different things and would likely not even be competing for minutes with each other. To me Long is more like a Chris Babb type player and can play the 2/3 depending on who we need to shut down. If anything I see Long and Babb competing for minutes along with Cooke and Norvell in years '16/17 and '17/18 playing similar roles (cgs and wings). I see them both getting at least good bench minutes in their first 2 years and starting roles the last 2. But wouldn't be suprised if either were 3 or 4 year starters and would expect both to be at least 2 year starters.
