Coffey was a HUGE factor for Curry going to Minnesota. It's a weird decision to us as Pitino hasn't shown us anything, but Coffey is highly regarded and a Minnesota kid, and Minneapolis is a great city. If they're friends, going to a P5 school in a top conference together isn't that far-fetched.
His dad played for Minny too, but had Fred stayed bet both would be ours as his dad was a big Hoiberg fan... oh well. The biggest benefactor of Fred going to the Bulls so far has been the goofers.

Had an ISU offer. Though I think after Young commitment interest had cooled.

@BSnowScout: Willie Jackson just made it official and committed to Missouri

Honestly I don't think there was really ever much interest from either side to begin with especially after the coaching change

Call me Thread Police or whatever, but can we please stop talking about child-rearing duties in this thread?

I don't think ANYONE questioned TJ's recruiting chops. What was questioned was his ability to take over as a head coach at this very moment in time, especially of a Top 10 team that can accomplish huge things this year but, depending on how recruits work out, has a very small window to accomplish those things.

False, there was definitely people questioning his recruiting ability. They thought we all had a fantasized view of TJ's abilities. I know because I was the one arguing against them. I'd go back and drag out the old threads, but I'm too lazy. Granted, what nearly all the naysayers had in common was that they really had no clue what players TJ actually recruited. MOST of them backed off once we started listing off all of them. Then, the few that were still left questioning him were of the delusional group that seem to think that we should be getting 5 star guys similar to the blue bloods. They also liked to focus more on the few misses of his recruits rather than the good ones, which is going to be the case with EVERY recruiter.

There were just as many people saying this was the type of player TJ did/would consistently bring in as well, it got pushed the extremes on both ends. Malou is an exception but the other kids TJ has signed so far, are the same type of kids ISU consistently signs. That's not a knock on him at all, that's exactly what we needed. With a staff that for the most part is new to p5 bball, it was crucial to have a guy who had a track record of getting big 12 caliber kids to Ames.

Yeah this thread has kind of gone to **** recently

Ya it has, seems like a select few actually talk about what the thread is about. You being one of them, so thank you for giving actual information about recruits. Next big news is going to be Jakolby Long after that signing of all of them.

After Long commits, it may be time to start fresh with 3.0 and move on to 2017 kids

It's the same kind of kids because it's always been TJ signing them. He was only gone for a couple seasons. Monte was a Mann guy but other than that it's pretty much all been TJ for HS kids since 2006.

You must be looking at a minute minority. The only "knocks" on his recruiting were saying he wasn't worth making a head coach just because of how he recruits, because it's not like he's pulling in 5 stars.

Would we miss TJ's abilities if he were to leave? Absolutely. We saw it when he went to Washington. Would it be the end of ISU basketball as we know it though? Probably not. I really like TJ. I think he's very valuable. I think at some point he'll make a good head coach. But with this team, with this small window where we have to have success to carry it forward, it wasn't worth taking the risk of someone cutting their teeth as a new head coach. I think THAT'S all people advocating against him were saying. But, I don't want to have this argument all. It's said and done, and whether people like it or not, Prohm is out head coach.
