RECRUITING: Some Xavier Simpson info

I know he's a 4* but I wasn't too excited about a guy who is 5'11. I'm sure he's a great player, just not one I'm going to be upset about losing.

Looks like this is how it went down. Looks like his dad shaped X's decision to go to UM and made X look like a fool.

Good luck to him.

Not sure there was one quote from Xavier in there. Yikes. Hate to assume things but it sure does seem like his dad was set on one school and somewhat forced it upon his son.

Obviously parents should be involved in the process but to an extent. His dad was way too involved in this process. All the interviews are with him. He didn't even tell Xavier that he had contacted and was talking to Michigan. Maybe I sound bitter but it is annoying how much his dad was a factor in this.

Funny his dad even says, "X wouldn't have wanted me to reach out UM, it was too late in the process". Thanks for deciding my future for me pops!

Yeah that one was the worst. That made it really sound like he wasn't letting his son handle the process.

In hindsight, with his dad in control Xavier probably wasn't going to play as far away from home as Iowa State.

But dang, Michigan wasn't even interested in recruiting Xavier before his dad called them?? This guy is a top pg in the nation within close distance from campus. It must be nice to be Michigan.

Ya I'd rather deal with a handler than Crazy Dad.

Really, how good of a pitch can a school give a kid when the unofficial visit happens with basically no prep time? You are going to tell me that Michigan had this great pitch setup for their backup recruit that wasn't even supposed to visit that didn't even have a committable offer because he had never been on campus? Weird.

This smells of a kid that will either decommit or transfer. Time will tell.

I know people hate it when it gets mentioned, but how do we know $$$ wasn't involved? Not saying it was, but we don't know all the connections that his coach Dad had with who.

If there ever was an article or story reflecting recruiting that would sum up Coach Holberg's disdain for it, this would be it! Wow.

I think if Michigan was going to involve money, they would have gotten their top PG recruit.

Well, even if UM had NOT shown reciprocal interest, it sounds like his dad was going to commit his son to the University of Illinois - so he wouldn't have chosen us in the end.

As long as X is happy no big deal. Ultimately that's all that matters. If Daddy pressured him to UM it would be a shame but we will never know and since we weren't 2nd place I couldn't care less.

The conspiracy theorists can calm down, the thought on this kid was Michigan and Michigan State were the offers he wanted but wasn't getting. No surprise he jumped at the chance even if it was the last minute.
