congratulations or condolences?

They have yet to show up un-announced. My mom did joke that she could retire by the time little wxman is in school and could walk him there everyday.

Well, so much for Mrs. wxman walking around Au natural on Saturday morning. I mean, congrats on the house and all, though.

Funny you mentioned that. The yard has a privacy fence but the houses behind it sit higher so you can see right in. I told the realtor they will learn to mind their own damn business after my naked runs around the yard.

I can never decide if I'm envious of people that have grandparents around to help with their kids or if I feel sorry for them. I love my parents, but if I had to see them all the time I would lose my mind.

Of course, my parents always made it clear that they raised their kids already. They weren't raising their grandkids too. They are awesome grandparents, they just have never been the babysitting grandparents that I see a lot of. I'm not sure I'd know how to act if they were.

I genuinely do not mean this as a shot to those that have parents who are actively involved in their grandkids's lives. The concept is just really foreign to me.

I think I've said this before, but for us, a little over an hour is perfect for us. They're close enough that they can pretty much come see the kids any time they want, but far enough they're not on our doorstep unannounced or when it won't fit our schedule. They're close enough that if we need them to take the kids overnight for something, they can, but far enough away that they're not burdened because we abuse it.

lol. It just doesn't interest me. Don't get why it's so popular.

I'm one of 40 cousins on one side, and one of 30 on the other. I think i spent maybe 1 weekend at both my grandparent's houses before they all passed.

Heh...Boxster...Jamby thinks you should retire, and get the hell outta the way for the guy behind you who wants your job. You're spending all this money and stuff when you should be retired and clipping coupons and such. Gosh, I don't know why you old people are so selfish.

Not as bad as the one thread on baby boomers with several ***-holes weighing in that the good news is that they will all die soon. Ignore list expanded from that thread.

And what's up with normally okay posters going all postal on CG in the retired thread? They serious or just pretending to be all prissy? Honestly cannot tell for sure.

I should probably head off to sleep* and not stay up to 1:00 a.m. on a work night like I did last night. Going to work TWO days in row, you know, stealing money from the younger workers like the one who has my job now who I am assigned to train and assist.

* Unlike Pants I actually require some sleep to function.

I'm like a robot.

That, or I'll die at 45 from sleep deprivation.

Oh, since everyone in THAT thread is questioning the value of old retirement eligible dudes:

The guy who replaced me just got his masters from the UoM. Found out today nobody has done anything to celebrate so I am bringing in two cakes tomorrow, one carrot cake and one chocolate. Old semi-retired dudes taking care of business.

Well, had you retired 10 years ago like a good little public servant, the younger guys wouldn't need your training and assistance because you were hogging their jobs, and they'd be training their younger brethren, and you could be eating dog food and **** like you should be, geezer.
