Random Thoughts IV

my dad is allergic to poison ivy. I have no idea what that means beyond the norm, but maybe strunk is too.

Up until I was 50, I had no reaction to PI whatsoever. The first year we moved to our acreage, I apparently came into contact with it. Didn't even know what it was. I thought it was stinging nettles (common in Washington). After 2 weeks I finally went to the doc, and got stronger steroid cream.

The second time I got it, I treated with the prescription meds but it got out of control and I ended up with raised purple weals the size of my hands (fingertip to thumb) on my thighs & belly. Ended up on prednisone that time. Now, when I get it, I call the doc immediately and start the meds before I end up missing a week of work because I can't wear clothes suitable for the office.

Maybe I'm over-reacting, but why suffer if you're just being a weenie about not liking doctors? Guys are so.....messed up sometimes...

well I mean I put off going for this Florida virus because I didn't want to pay a copay to be told I had a virus. So I can understand if that's what it is. If it's free, then yeah, probably go.

No. I have no idea what PI is. I was just playing the male role in any injury.

I read it as prediction interval which makes no sense at all. Too much time on stats today.

Also just thought a coworker's can of water was a can of beer.

Think I need to take a nap or something.

Nope - I have a copay of $15. But my opinion stands...if paying $15 to see the doc gets it under control sooner and I suffer less and miss less work, then the $15 is worth the price.

For a cold/cough/viral thing, yeah...give it 7 to 10 days. PI is an allergic reaction; some people fight it off with calamine & antihistamines, some (like me and apparently your dad - jury's out on Strunk) need prescription meds to make it go away.

Well I currently have no health insurance so that's the reason why I'm trying to wait it out. But it is spreading slowly. It's not really painful it's more of an annoyance and obviously it makes me look like a zombie. I was hoping I could fight it off.

Here's a couple of OTC tricks that might help.

Benadryl (oral NOT topical). Works on the histamines that generate the "itchy" feeling...

NO soap, especially deoderant soaps like coast or irish spring et al. Take short, cool baths, use Aveeno body wash and/or bath additives. Aveeno oatmeal based...works really well with PI & chickenpox, soothes the itching.

Don't scratch!!! Can lead to introducing bacteria and a whole host of new issues...

I did without health insurance the last two years. The biggest thing is before they do anything, negotiate the price and be able to pay in cash right then and there. I got an X-Ray done for $60 instead of the $500 or whatever they wanted to charge.

Hey, get your GD insurance, lackey! Don't you know that your healthy *** paying for insurance is the only way it's cheaper than it should be for me with my 2 kids?
