Seriously? Fred arrived with 3 scholarship players and nothing but his NBA connections to sell recruits on.
Prohm has a top 10 team this year and quite possibly a returning team of Monte, Cooke, Thomas, Burton, Nick N. and Babb plus the ability to add Midseason transfers and offer top HS playing time. CSP is in a much better position than a majority of first year coaches.
This year wasn't going to be a big transfer season in any case, for the reasons you stated and there isn't immediate playing time being available. The sky is far from falling.

Let me clarify, that obviously I'm talking about next year going forward. Clearly Fred passed on a great team for 2015-16.

But next year things get dicey. DG, Scotty and JVB were 3 solid players. We can split hairs about who was better, but either way we need to add several difference makers by next year.

I'm not saying we won't. In fact, I think we will. But I don't think there's any doubt that we're in a situation where the next two recruiting classes have to be good for Prohm to work out.

Only way MM is coming back to ISU, if he blows out his knee. Having four open scholarships is scary and leads to some major gaps down the road.

If ISU MBB was a stock and you needed to retire in 3 years, would you buy or sell?

When referring to a better spot, it is about more than 2015-16.

I just don't get how people are so down on 16-17. If Monte comes back that team is pre-season rated with what we know we have back. Monte goes and Burton/Cooke/Thomas axis is still a solid core and we'd probably be looking at mid table of the Big 12 but going farther in to the season than we all might like feel good about a bid....so basically, like Fred's 2nd and 3rd seasons.

We're all going to have to accept that there will be rebuilding years now without Fred. We just have to hope our rebuilding years are still bubble years and only last one season.

How do you figure? Right now on DraftExpress Monte is listed as the 51st pick. Granted, it's one website 51 weeks before the draft, but it's not like he is guaranteed to go in the first round.

I agree. Obviously it will be a down year as we will be losing a lot of talent but we will also maintain some good talent. And will have lots of playing time to sell to recruits so I think we will have a good recruiting class as well.

I think the problem is that people can't separate "bad" from "worse". Yes, in 2016/17 we're more than likely going to be worse than we were last year and worse than we are going to be this year. But that doesn't mean we're going to be bad.

This. Plus people seem to think that we're not capable of recruiting any capable talent in the next year based on how they are posting. It's not like Prohm wasn't recruiting anyone this past year. I'm sure he has been looking at recruits that he was scouting at Murray State and is trying to figure out if they'd be a good fit here. His new position here should be a bigger selling point to at least a few of them that he was already in good communication with. If next season goes like we anticipate, I would think recruiting will become easier for CSP.

Hell, even if Fred had stocked the cupboard with blue-chippers for 2016-2017, there was certainly no guarantee that those kids would have stayed committed. At least we are (reasonably) aware of what our situation is and can address our needs moving forward.

Is it just me, or has Minnesota and Oregon been 'in' on and active for about every transfer? Heck, I don't think we could even be close to being called Transfer U. these days, even if Fred was here.

I agree somewhat, I don't equate it to being "bad". But when you're in the big12, a 'down' or 'worse' team doesn't usually get you into the top tier of the conference and thus makes dancing alot dicier. Name me one basketball coaching change at ISU that hasn't resulted in a drop off, and I don't mean the next year (like this sr. laden team) or when Floyd took over Johnny's senior-laden team. Its that following year that recruiting suffers. The exception was Hoiberg who pulled in some big transfers that made us competitive fast. Admittedly, going to the NCAA consecutive years has me spoiled. Hope this staff can remain fairly stable and pull it off without too much slide.

Baylor was supposed to be bad last year. I'll worry about being bad when it happens...and no sooner.
