Quick update between other conversations...

1 - I continue to hear that things are not settled on the 4 known candidates (TJ, Prohm, Underwood, Drew) and there are still 1-2 surprise candidates in the mix.

2 - There is no planned discussion of the Jeff Hornacek debacle by Iowa State, naturally.

3 - TJ is still the frontronner, but there is a lot of building momentum behind Drew at the moment.

4 - If it really does come down to the 4 known candidates, right now donor and insider support breaks in the following order...

1) TJ
2a) Prohm
2b) Drew
4) Underwood

5 - The rift between JP and Leath continues to be misunderstood. There is friction in the directions they want to go, but both are continuing to be men and cooperate - they are partners in the search.

Hopefully I'll have time to post some more this evening.

Why pick Otzelberger over Prohm?

Why pick Otzelberger over Prohm?

A lot of thoughts are the opposite... why pick Prohm over TJ? I'm not going to keep arguing over the pros/cons of each because it all comes down to preference and semantics because ultimately they have a lot of the same experience - just a tad different titles through it.

How surprised would you be if someone other than the 4 "known" candidates gets hired?

Be curious to see who TJ adds as an assistant or assistants?

Why pick Otzelberger over Prohm?

If your asking this at this point given it's been explained over and over and over and over, you obviously aren't really interested and not accepting whats all ready been argued.

So would TJ be as serious of a candidate if he hadn't returned this spring? Would that change some opinions on him?

Just hire them all and let them arm wrestle to figure out who is HC, Associate HC, etc. Then we could all be happy.:jimlad:

Prohm has coached 4 seasons, as a head coach, and has a near .800 record. TJ has never been a head coach at this level. I don't see how that is "a lot of the same experience."

If it came down to those guys, it would be good to see Prohm as HC and TJ as an assistant.

Still #TeamOtz, but #teamsecretcandidate could be interesting. It's like the old Let's Make a Deal. It could be a great deal behind door #2, but it could also be a donkey.

Why pick Otzelberger over Prohm?

To a lot of people, being a known recruiter and an assistant on 2 good power 5 conference teams in 9 years is the same as leading a mid-major squad to at least a share of 4 consecutive titles in terms of coaching and experience.

TJ is the only person that could recruit to ISU, and he knows the players so they would play hard for him, but not an outsider in some people's eyes.

Also, although Georges and Naz are the only players he's ever been on a staff for for one year, he knows hoiberg's system, where as any other coach would be a real risk of messing next year up.

Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?

Oh yeah, and Greg McDermott was a mid-major coach, so we should never hire a mid-low major coach again. (Floyd, Eustachy)

Honestly, at this point, I'm convinced some on here would have less issues with it if he hadn't come back. Those convinced that this whole thing was a coup d'etat with Thomas John Otzelberger waiting in the wings might well be singing his praises as an 'out of the box' hire had he not come back.

I would suspect it would change almost everything about everyone's opinion on him.

People link him with Hoiberg and strongly want to cling to it. I'm not convinced he can replicate Hoiball, and there certainly isn't any proof anywhere.

It's a big leap of faith, bigger than hiring a proven HC at the mid major level.
