Thursday was nuts.

Thibs got canned.

Now, it’s on.

The daily dirt.

--- Earlier this week, a source told me to not sleep on Suns coach and former Cyclone Jeff Hornacek to possibly replace Fred Hoiberg in Ames. Today, I was told by not one but two separate sources that Hornacek is not interested in the job (reason being he isn’t crazy about the grind of the college game – recruiting, APR, etc.).

Then, THESE CRAZY QUOTES from Hornacek surfaced on Thursday night and left me scratching my head.

My gut is telling me to not read too much into the quotes and that Hornacek is simply leveraging Phoenix Ultimately, I think it is a bit of a long shot that he ends up at Iowa State but at the same time, we are in full blown coaching search mode now (at least that's how people are acting). Weird things happen so stay tuned.

--- Speaking of Jamie Pollard, something came to me mid-afternoon on Thursday. That is that this will be his first coaching search with Steven Leath by his side as Iowa State president. I have no idea if that will have an impact on the search or not but is something I’ll probably ask about when it is all said and done. In the past (to the best of my knowledge), Pollard has been free to maneuver however he’s seen fit.

--- There is still some Tim Floyd noise out there and after a conversation I had on Thursday, I’d say there is a zero percent chance that he replaces Hoiberg should Fred leave.

--- Keep up to date on the latest links from around the web by refreshing our running links blog on the front page of CF. Shout out to intern Jared for handling this page.

Pollard needs to back up the money truck and get Hornacek. Match or beat Hoiberg's contract. It's literally the only way we're going to stay or exceed current levels.

If Hoiberg would have stayed he would have received a sizable raise. Hornacek may not come, but I definitely don't see him coming unless we pay him at least what Hoiberg was making. Having a former NBA coach at ISU would put us in play for some quality recruits and keep the ship sailing in the right direction.

You are basically confirming he's gone. Can you FULLY CONFIRM he's going to the Bulls. You said we are in full coaching search now. Just an interesting comment you made.

Hoiberg could have easily stopped all this nonsense a long time ago by suggesting he's happy as coach of ISU.

Pretty obvious what's coming.

That's how everybody I've talked to is acting. No. I cannot fully confirm it. But there's a much, much higher chance that Fred is in Chicago next year and not Ames IMO.

Do you need to see the sun to come up in the morning to know that the sun will come up in the morning?

I make 10 bucks an hour at a ******* grocery store... If pollard wants to accept donations to entice Hornacek mark me down for $500.

Reading those comments from the article about Hornacek was fun.
Please make this happen, JP.

I especially liked the one where the poster wished the ISU job didn't seem so appealing to him. Put a little smirk on my face which is as close to happy I've been all day. Sometimes it's the little things in life.

To narrow that down further, I'm thinking he's been gone since around 8/2014-10/2014.
Well, preliminary work may have started before 6/14.

Pure speculation. But I don't see Hornacek really get interested in Cyclone job unless Suns refuse to give him an extra guranteed year. If it's between a lame duck year with the Suns and some better job security and slightly better pay at Iowa State, it COULD happen.

But if you don't like the stepping stone to NBA position, then be careful with what you wish for with Hornacek. A couple years of success at Iowa State added to his perceived success with improving the Suns, and he will be a hot name for NBA job just like Hoiberg is now.

Of course, in a couple years TJ maybe better suited for the job, or perhaps Hoiberg has the NBA out of his system and is ready to end his career at his true dream job.
