Hoiberg Watch 2015: Thursday, May 28 Thread

I feel bad for the posters who spend time in a thread that they don't care about.

I'm perfectly capable of talking about my disappointment that a successful, hometown coach doesn't want to be here without it affecting my life.

Who doesn't care about Fred leaving Iowa State?! What a moronic thing to claim about me.

I can wish a person stayed at their job without placing blame or ill will upon them for taking a new one. That distinction is lost on some here.

Does any 'insiders' here besides Jeremy have any other insight on what they have been hearing? I've been paying attention, but anything in the last day?

Things I know...
1. Nothing is for sure, but we've all come to the conclusion he's most likely gone. My question do we even have a shot?
2. I'm secretly hoping we get a high profile guy, but if we don't we need to stay with Otzleberger. What is anyone hearing about high profile guys, besides Jeff H.
3. Does anyone know if Otz and Jeff Grayer have a relationship?

Cwilly said that Jeff has said that he is not interested in coming back if Hoiberg did leave, also did say that didn't mean he wouldn't be pursued.

Technically they were on the same staff here for three or four months. McDermott hired Grayer as an assistant and Fred retained him as Director of Basketball Operations. Grayer left saying he wanted to be a coach rather than an office guy. I'm not sure if he's coached college ball since.

Think that would be a good hire if Otz does get the gig... my two cents

If this thing really blows up and players start leaving (don't think they will) I wonder what they would call the 30 for 30 on it. ESPN 30for30: Transferred Out - The lost season of Iowa State basketball? I don't know, best I could come up with on the fly.

I thought CW said he got conflicting reports about Hornacek. One that he wasn't interested and another that he might be. But that JP was going to give it a shot either way.

I'd like to have somebody who played here on the staff, I just don't know what kind of a coach he is. He'd have Detroit ties, which would be good for recruiting if nothing else.

Hey, then Cyclone Fanatic would get the ISU 30 for 30 we've been hoping for! :jimlad:

I think it's hilarious when people act like they're blindsided by the news that Hoiberg would like to coach in the NBA.
