That's a different backlash, though. The backlash in Iowa is for "lying" from people who don't understand how public statements work.

I understand that he never had to say the things he said and in doing so, led people to believe he was most likely here for a long time. Most people including me figured he'd wind up in the league eventually but not right now when we actually have a legit shot at that banner he talked about. If you think Iowans are the only type of people who would be hurt and ****** in this situation, we will have to agree to disagree because that's just a human thing imo.

1. Fred hasn't gone anywhere yet.

2. Even if he does, it is entirely possible Fred could come back to ISU again someday.

I don't like to see people go overboard.

I'm in this camp as well. Worried as hell, and will be disappointed in Fred leaving as any event with ISU in the last 10 years, but no reason to go full ****** bag on this.

McDermott has to be sitting on his front porch right about now, drinking a cold beer with a huge frickin smile on his face.

Reading the Hines article makes it clearer than it has been that Fred is leaving.

If he does leave, am thankful for all that he has done at ISU. I urge those of you who are berating him right now to calm down. If he made those statements to Diallo, they were honest. Good for Fred. He didn't mislead or misrepresent anything; I respect that.

I don't agree with those of you wishing Fred "good riddance". I feel a little embarrassed to be part of this fan base when it acts like that for a coach and player who has done great things at the school.

If 2 ever happens I will be happy and welcome him back with open arms. Right now, I'm angry and have every right to be so. Could be wrong but I'm guessing most, regardless of how over the top they are being, feel the same way.
