If you are reading this, the Bulls are not a good option for you. Minnesota is a much better situation with an up and coming playoff contender. It's a win win for you if you go to the Wolves. You'll be looked at as the guy who lead this young group to promising things. If you head to that Bull (crap) job in Chicago, you'll never get the credit you deserve with that bad owner Reinsdorph. If I were you, I'd improve your resume by steering this ship (our great 2015-2016 team) to the Final 4 and you could earn your self more millions by doing that. But if you leave now, I think it's possible you may just be in it to get the cash when you can. I feel you can earn so much more by staying AT LEAST 1 more year. Prove the doubters wrong who say you can't win in the tournament. But if you don't think you can succeed in doing that, maybe Chicago is the best option for you.

how would you possibly know that? he hasn't coached a single nba game yet.

Let's put it this way, I'm pretty sure the Chicago front office has made it clear to any and all candidates what is expected of them and wouldn't hire a guy who didn't believe in their philosophy.
 
In the end, this hurts to me because it kills the illusion of "Fred Hoiberg, Iowa State legend." I don't think he's done anything wrong, and nobody should be throwing him under the bus. But when I think about the Fred era years from now, I'm guessing the most prominent thought that will enter my mind will be "What might have been?"

We all romanticized his time here, because we were sold on the story that he could have retired here and been happy, because to us, what could be better than that? We thought he lived and died with Iowa State basketball like we do. None of us could imagine leaving Iowa State on the precipice of perhaps the most promising season in program history, because to us, that is the ultimate pinnacle.

Sadly, through no fault of his own, that is not Fred's ultimate pinnacle. He, just like 99.99% of other people, view his move to Chicago as career advancement and a better opportunity. It hurts because we thought he was part of our crazy 0.01%.

It hurts because I thought I'd be telling my kids/grandkids stories about how the Mayor came back, saved the program, saved Iowa State and took us to the Final Four. Fred always use to make me think of that quote from Sandlot: "Remember kid, heroes get remembered, but legends never die."

Thanks for everything, Fred.

JP usually is pretty honest about things...meaning, whatever press conference is had, he'll be honest...now, he won't likely be ****** like he was at CHIZZ as I'm sure CFH has kept him in the loop and they've been in communication and both will be respectful.

Call it coach speak all you want but if that really wasn't how he felt, he shouldn't have said it publicly. When somebody like Fred says something like that, call me gullible but I tend to believe it because my opinion of him is so high. I won't hate him for life by any means but right now I'm pretty un ******* happy that one of our own, somebody most if not all of us thought was different, seems to be like any other coach. I don't doubt that he loves ISU/Ames but there's no denying how much he's hurt the fan base and program which is even harder to take because of how much he's done and could have done in the future. Have fun with the hypercritical Chicago ******** Fred.

This is why being a public figure in Iowa is not a good thing to be.
 
I think the leak for Travis' article is the beginning of setting us up for the final answer. Get us a mad at Fred to soften the blow to come.

At least this mess will end soon, and we will see what we have in a new coach.

The stress of the season has worn him out. Do you think it's possible he just relaxed and forgot about the game and program for a little bit until he heard from the NBA?
 
Well, I thought the drawn out ordeal would allow most of us to get to the acceptance stage once Fred appeared to be gone. However it looks like most people are back to anger.

Dannynoonan just had me thinking of an interesting idea. Is it at all possible Fred just gave up on Iowa State after the UAB game? Did he think that he just couldn't win with this program? The stress did get to him and he was forced to the hospital after the season (even asked to before the season). Fred may have just said, I've had it. I need something new and I am done with Iowa State. And that's disappointing if true.

It's the way it goes everywhere. If this Bulls thing doesn't go well for him, the backlash will be much worse there than anything he ever gets from people in Iowa. He's replacing a coach that most people still like and thing the Bulls are idiots for getting rid of. If he doesn't come in and win big right away, he won't be welcome here for long.
