For the record even if Fred is 100% sure that he's going to the Bulls he can't "just leave" until the Bulls officially have a job to give him. Blame Chicago.

Fred's silence in this situation is either saying that he's going but can't officially say so yet, or he's still unsure. Neither of those should be his fault unless you want to say that growing up in Ames and being the Iowa State coach should require you to stay at ISU for the length of your career.

No. Either Fred is certain he is staying, in which case he can declare his continued commitment for Iowa State or he can say nothing. Saying nothing means he is leaving but can't make it official. The silence is quite obvious.

If your wife asks about the rumors you are going to file for a divorce do you immediately combat them or do you say nothing?

The way I look at it is if we're going the mid-major route just give it to TJ. He'll be cheaper and the players will be comfortable with him. For me it's all about next year, all the eggs go in to that basket. If we flame then we have a cheap whipping boy in TJ (fairly or not) and if we get to say...the Final Four, TJ will run with that so hard in recruiting and we'll stay up.

I disagree. I'd taken a proven mid-major winner like Underwood over TJ at this point. Plus we could get him for about the same price I'd guess (TJ would be a little cheaper). Offer Underwood $1.5 and he gets his salary increased 4-5x. Would be tough to say no to ISU with a Top 10 roster next year.

Turning over the reigns to someone with ZERO head coaching experience with what could be the best ISU team ever is too risky IMO. Nothing against TJ at all, I'd personally prefer someone with experience leading a team.

You don't think if an ISU coach not named Fred Hoiberg was going through this year in and year out, that some fans would be put off or annoyed? Because I guarantee that would happen.

What is unsubstantiated? Not the raises, not the flirtations, not the keeping ISU in limbo...

Top coaches are going to have other teams contact them. That does not equate to flirting on his part. The only way to avoid such a circumstance is to hire a coach who sucks.

I wouldn't mind Brad Underwood as a coach. His teams at SFA averaged more points than ISU.
He also won their regular season and conference championships the last 2 years there. His "spread" offense would definitely work and be fun to watch with next years team.

I think most K-State fans want him coaching them right now.

I get what you are saying but do top coaches leverage that for a raise year in and year out? Of course its good to have a head coach that other people want. But I'd say its a little ridiculous at this point with Fred. We've done this for 3 straight years now. Only this time he won't say anything which is impacting the program.

I don't see it as leveraging at all. Jamie has been adjusting his contract based on his accomplishments, and making sure that he is being paid at fair market value. If you don't do that as Fred's boss, you are taking advantage of his love for the school.

Next year's team should be good regardless, but I think the national championship hope is overblown. The tourney is a crap shoot and we return a majority of last year's inconsistent, streaky team with some additions of unknown quality. I'd wager lack of rebounding and defense are going to lead to some of the same deflating losses against bad teams like we saw last year on cold shooting nights.

Just trying to slow the hype train for everyone who thinks Fred for one more year is the most important thing in program history. It's not. If he won't stay for more than a year, better he leaves now and give the new coach a head start with a great line up and no down time on recruiting.

I'm not sure where he's getting his information and I wasn't paying that close attention as I was trying to get the kids out the door for school this morning so I could leave for work, but Pat Tomasulo of WGN said that the Bulls will probably fire Thibs tomorrow from what he's been hearing.

Again, sorry I don't have any links on this, it was just on the WGN morning news and he said it during his normal sports segment at about 7:50. It was all Blackhawks talk for the most part this morning, and since I watched the game last night, I wasn't paying that close attention and then he just said it pretty quickly without going too deep into anything.

I really hope this is true. I think, like a lot of people here, I've just come to the point where I want a decision made so we can move on with our lives.

Heard the same thing on the radio this morning. I think it actually came from a report from someone else, and the quote was "a decision will be made regarding Tom Thibodeau by Friday".

I'm to the point where I wish Fred would just leave. Even if he stays, doing this every off season is a terrible way to hold the school you love hostage. Either leave or commit long term.

Because whether you hire a guy in April or in June, they are going to have ground to make up with recruits..
2 months is not going to make a difference.

I am not a Pollard fan but the one thing he has tried to instill on our sheepish fan base is ISU is a great school, and should not take a back seat to anyone. This. I've said in other previous posts that Underwood would be a good hire if not perfect fit. He's turned SFA around, runs a similar style offense, is young, and is a rising star.

And you don't see how the guy who is literally the face of Iowa State, our golden boy, using ISU as a stepping stone to a "better" job is causing people issues? Hoiberg is straight up validating all the crap we get from outside the fanbase about ISU and where we sit in the big picture.

The timeline is pretty relevant to the players. Having sons that age myself, I have to think the uncertainty is incredibly upsetting and frustrating for them.

Because he has the opportunity to go to one of the top jobs in his profession? No it's not causing me issues.
