Average coach lasts 2.5 years in the NBA so he has a lot to look forward to in a few years.
Don't talk about my Freddy like that. While I don't understand Freddy and why he would leave us like this, I still will love him.
Like Miller tried to do yesterday crediting the "Rally" as a "Post BY CycloneFanatic" and said "a grown man" made that thread/post. I mean, that could have been a 12 old girl from Nevada for all anyone knows. I thought that was pretty **** poor out of Miller.
And I think that's where we sorta can agree but also disagree.
Is the program in a better spot than when he arrive? Abso fricking lutely.
Will we be dancing next year regardless of coach? Damn skippy
Here's where we differ.
I have zero faith we can get someone of his ilk that can maintain that trend 2016 and beyond.
I also firmly believe that without him coaching next year we'll underachieve.
I firmly believe Fred is that once in a 25 year hire (Orr being other) that has "it" and the stars align to the start of his tenure at a program that just sets you up for success.
Programs that that routinely hire new coaches every 5-8 years do not see continued success. We had a chance to finally have some long term stability and success and once again it's getting taken away.
Maybe loving Fred is indeed pathetic. So be it. If loving Fred is wrong I don't want to be right.
Miller is just pissy because this one topic spanning however long it runs will drive 10x more traffic than HokNation will in its lifetime.
I don't think NBA coaching is the pinnacle. Pay wise, yes. But not in respect. Except if you think you can surpass Phill or the Spurs coach. (who I can't even remember his name if that tells you anything.
Who are the pinnacles of coaching? Guys with multiple Final Four and NCAA Championship rings. Self, Ol Roy, Dean Smith, Boehiem, Izzo, Knight. Tubby, Calipari. Those my friend put many and nearly all NBA coaches to shame.
I think Fred will use the inevitable NBA coaching gig as a step to a front office (read General Manager) position. That seems to be his ultimate goal in my mind. Having played, coached, and being successful (presuming the coaching goes decently well) at both, he will have everything needed to be a highly regarded and very much respected general manager. For many many years.
But what you think doesn't matter. If Fred thinks its the pinnacle of his profession, why begrudge him the chance to chase it? Everyone who has reported anything on this has said it's not about money, yet you insist it is. Just because you disagree with the decision doesn't mean you get to assign motives ($$$) to it.
NBA is the pinnacle for players. It's not for coaches.
Go around and ask the average Joe these two questions and tell us the resutls;
1. Who was that guy who stood on the sideline wearing a snazzy suit while Lebron, Wade and Bosh won multiple NBA titles? (duh, ummm, deerrrr, dunno)
2. Who was that guy at (Duke, UNC, KU, Kentucky, Syracuse, Arizona, Wisc, Mich St.) who goes dancing nearly every year and who's teams is always a solid pick to make the FF in your office pool?
Go around and ask the average Joe these two questions and tell us the resutls;

This is one of the more incyteful posts I have seen regarding this whole mess. Don't know if he willl have the cash but I wouldn't rule out some level of ownership as well.
To him, no, of course it doesn't matter.
But to me the fan of ISU it sure as hell does matter. It matters when other so called fans try to tell me to wish him well and root him on in the NBA when I know as a fan he just squarely kicked my program in nuts.
