My MBB short list for coaches.

Hornacek if he'd be willing to leave the Suns

Jeff grew up in suburban Chicago, and lived in Phoenix, Philly, Salt Lake City, and now back in Phoenix

Ames is a great little town but he and his family would be bored silly. There are only so many times you would go to North Grand Mall and Aunt Maudes, and the butterfly exhibit

Brenda Frese didn't hang around Ames for the same reasons. And she wouldn't come back, although she loved her time there

When I spoke to his brother earlier this week, he said it would be hard for Jeff to leave the West.
Likes Phoenix..

I just can't go back to Larry Ball. Love the guy but I just can't.

I'd take his emphasis on defense. And when he had the right guys, offense wasn't an issue. It wasn't chucking the ball up as soon it crossed half court, but it was fine.

That said, with the rules changes, and possible shortening of the shot clock, and the current personnel, I don't see someone like that being a good fit.

Larry got screwed at ISU by AD at time, don't condone his behavior but he had a problem and we should've given him opportunity to get over it (sure few threads over this one), but a proven winner IMO. Really doesn't matter as CFH will be the ISU MBB coach next fall, no doubt. For some odd reason I wake up and see it different, than I can make a case for Larry.

One can talk all day, but until it's on paper, one really doesn't realize just what a dud GMAC was.

if he leaves, he doesn't want to be. And that is fine. He can do what he wants. But by leaving, he's saying the nba is more important to him and his family.

It's fine if you all want to discuss potential replacements for Hoiberg; it's a message board after all. But you can get the hell out of here with this crap.

Fred has been nothing but an incredible ambassador for the entire university for many years, and you're going to turn on him based on what some Internet bloggers made up? That's bull.

I doubt there is going to be a long line of people ready to take medicre money to follow not only an excellent coach but also a beloved figure at Iowa State.

Hmmm... I get to inherit a top 10 team... Passionate fan base who loves the current coach... Program at arguably an all-time high... No, don't think I'd even consider that job.

Hopefully we aren't trying to hire pu**ies for the position

Fred is the engine that makes it go, everyone else is a cog.
I have to disagree with that. If there's someone that Fred thinks can take over the job and be successful, you go with them. As the Cyclone Fanatic adage goes, "trust in Fred".

If Fred did go now, considering time of year, keeping otz for consistency may make sense. But make it one year interim first. Same approach they should have taken with Morgan. Gives coach a season to show glimpse of capability and a year to assess other potential options.

Downside to that plan is most likely recruiting, and obviously it's better if you can land exactly who is best immediately.

If we hire an interim coach I will burn my season tickets and send JP the video. It ain't happening.

We've had one horrible and one middle of the road coach out of our last 6. We will get someone that won't put us back to McDermott level when Fred leaves.
