Hiring TJ would be a return of the Wayne Morgan Syndrome. Hiring a new head coach because he happens to be the best person already employed by you when the opening occurs, rather than doing a nationwide search for the best candidate.
Look, I love Hoiberg (seriously, i have a man-crush on him) but let's keep some perspective. One Sweet 16 in five years ain't exactly John Wooden. Yes, he has raised us up to some great things but, when it counts, he has a Sweet 16.
Stop being so damn dramatic.
Yep - I'd hope ISU and being the Big XII, with a top 10 team warrants a bit more of a candidate pool.
Spud Webb or Mugsy Bouges. Oh crap, read the title wrong.

We should throw Danny Mannings name out there just to get under Kansas fans skin

If Fred did go now, considering time of year, keeping otz for consistency may make sense. But make it one year interim first. Same approach they should have taken with Morgan. Gives coach a season to show glimpse of capability and a year to assess other potential options.
Downside to that plan is most likely recruiting, and obviously it's better if you can land exactly who is best immediately.
I like doc but no. My feelings on tj are well known. Lutz would be interesting but he didn't last for a year here.
It will be tj.
Cytime, for your sake, I hope its TJ, just because he's a friend of mine.....hahahahahahaha
I'm sure you are.
If he sucks, I'm guessing that you'll be yelling for him to be fired long before I do though.
doubtful
It's very dangerous to support a coach just because you are friends.
Just think if you were friends with Rhoads you might still want him to be coach!
TJ might be very successful. We know he is a good recruiter (although he did his best recruiting under McDermott). He seems to be a nice person. But he has been on very few staffs that were successful. For such a great recruiter, he sure seemed to pick some duds to work for. And the one successful coach he worked for, he left after 3 years.
He'll be given a gift that very few are given. But he'll be under pressure to win right away. If he blows it next year, it will be darn near impossible for him to gain traction.
But it won't really matter because in 5 years he'll be gone anyway. Then we can go find our next crappy coach.
4 straight ncaas=never done
back to back tournament titles = never done
pretty much altered the team building landscaping of cbn
lets not downplay what Fred has done here. Those are major accomplishments at ISU.
