Who else is St. John's competing with us for?

Some are already listed above. Also just offerred pg, Nate Piere Louis (something like that) who we were after. And there's more. Not to mention a juco. Look...not saying he'll recruit Coffey, Bridges, Tyler Cook, Monk, etc. ..but nothing shocks me these days in recruiting, either.

Idk how it all happens or works. And maybe we make contact and are told "not interested" from the get go, but seems to me we still need to try to get in late on a juco big like Chris Boucher, 6"10 that can play the forward it says. Sure hope Otz is working hard to find another big cuz the eggs surely can't be all in Diallo's basket. Or grad transfer Shonn Miller from Cornell.

If it's been mentioned on here it's been thought about by the staff.

Matt is going to keep recruiting who he has relationships with, not sure if people just thought he'd throw away all those relationships and be starting from scratch now? They're going to be playing in a similar style to us as well so we're going to be in competition with them until a little time passes because of the MA connection.

Unless we have a commitment that I'm not aware of Matt can't steal anyone. Can't steal something if we never had it.

This couldn't be more true. Can't believe you guys would expect anything less. Recruiting is cut throat and I'm sure Fred expected nothing less from Matt and St. John's.

Matt continues to preach how much ISU and this community means to him. I don't know what to think about that. I understand the desire to head home to NYC. I get that 100%. At what point do you back off Diallo though? I mean seriously Fred gave the kid a start to his coaching career. ISU has spent years and thousands upon thousands of dollars recruiting this kid. Fred has the program in a position to be a top 5 caliber team and Diallo literally could push us over the top. It could be a program changing year. Then in his final comments Matt says he knows or at least hopes he coaches with Fred again?? Fred is a bigger man then I will ever be I suppose. Call me crazy but I think Matt owes Fred the courtesy to back away from this one recruit. If Matt was truly loyal to Fred he would have let Mullin know before accepting the position hed work his A off for that University but there is no way he wants any part of costing Fred his first All American in such a critical year. Who knows maybe I'm just bitter. I'm sure Hoiberg and Matt discussed the situation. Wish Matt all the best in the future.

And Lorenzo Romar is going to ask TJ to back off the kids with Washington offers? At the end of the day everyone does their job.

I get what you're saying, but Matt owes it to his current employer to do the best job that he can. If Otz would have gotten a five star kid with a WA lean to come here, nobody would turn that kid away because we felt bad about taking their recruit. Matt didn't go there to be mediocre.

This is insanity. If Fred respects Matt he would expect him to do his best for his new employer. As long as Matt doesn't negatively recruit it's all good. Matt wasn't dissing St Johns while recruiting for Fred and won't dis ISU while working for Chris.

I still agree with what was said in the FAWcast. I feel like the players would see right through recruiting for another team. "For months you've been telling me how awesome it is to be at ISU, and now suddenly you are telling me to go to St. John's instead?" I feel like switching schools and trying to recruit someone to that new school, regardless of if you are going to do any negative recruiting, would be extremely tough to not lose some credibility with that recruit.

If he didn't try to flip Diallo, I'm pretty sure Fred would see that as a negative in future assistant hirings.

Where do people get the idea that there's all this nicey-nice in a cut-throat biz?

As Cydkar said, I highly doubt Matt A was using any negative recruiting where St John's is concerned. He tells Diallo how great ISU is, then turns around and sells him on St John's, which he should be able to do pretty easily, considering he knows St John's about as well as anyone. The only tough part for Matt will be selling a system, because nobody...Matt A included, is likely to know what kind of system Mullin will run out there.
