Matt continues to preach how much ISU and this community means to him. I don't know what to think about that. I understand the desire to head home to NYC. I get that 100%. At what point do you back off Diallo though? I mean seriously Fred gave the kid a start to his coaching career. ISU has spent years and thousands upon thousands of dollars recruiting this kid. Fred has the program in a position to be a top 5 caliber team and Diallo literally could push us over the top. It could be a program changing year. Then in his final comments Matt says he knows or at least hopes he coaches with Fred again?? Fred is a bigger man then I will ever be I suppose. Call me crazy but I think Matt owes Fred the courtesy to back away from this one recruit. If Matt was truly loyal to Fred he would have let Mullin know before accepting the position hed work his A off for that University but there is no way he wants any part of costing Fred his first All American in such a critical year. Who knows maybe I'm just bitter. I'm sure Hoiberg and Matt discussed the situation. Wish Matt all the best in the future.

No....

Matt is going to keep recruiting who he has relationships with, not sure if people just thought he'd throw away all those relationships and be starting from scratch now? They're going to be playing in a similar style to us as well so we're going to be in competition with them until a little time passes because of the MA connection.
The new marquette.

Fyi Lutz also got some recruits we were both recruiting. I still love that guy. Matt is free to poach our guys. We dont have a problem with TJ recruiting kids he recruited to Washington.

I get what you're saying, but Matt owes it to his current employer to do the best job that he can. If Otz would have gotten a five star kid with a WA lean to come here, nobody would turn that kid away because we felt bad about taking their recruit. Matt didn't go there to be mediocre.

Still sucks. In business you would have no compete clauses for work you did with a client or potential client on one businesses dime.

I still agree with what was said in the FAWcast. I feel like the players would see right through recruiting for another team. "For months you've been telling me how awesome it is to be at ISU, and now suddenly you are telling me to go to St. John's instead?" I feel like switching schools and trying to recruit someone to that new school, regardless of if you are going to do any negative recruiting, would be extremely tough to not lose some credibility with that recruit.
I think selling the positives of 2 different schools would be easy and still be genuine about both. I don't see why it has to be so hard. He's not going to bash ISU.

Chris Mullin and St. John's have already reached out to Diallo and have face to face meeting within a few days. When was the last time we heard Fred doing that for Diallo? Chances have to be extremely slim we land him.

You do realize Fred and company reach out to recruits all the time without it being put on Twitter right? Mullin being a new coach is a unique situation and people are asking Diallo and his camp if Mullin has reached out to Cheick since he got hired

@AndrewKingHorns: #Texas signee Kerwin Roach (@SumbdyFixDaNet) tells me he has talked to fellow Signee Eric Davis tonight and both are 100% solid with Texas

that sucks

I get that but when was the last time we heard anything about ISU and Diallo? I'm not counting the time Fred couldn't make due to weather because Abdelmassih was the only one who went out there and now he's gone.

Fred didn't not make it because of weather. I think he cancelled because of the Matt to St John's situation developing.

If so, glad we could pay for Matt to make one last trip. Hey, maybe it help keeps Diallo from signing with KU?

Competing against each other for future recruits is entirely different than guys you just visited who are set to sign in a few weeks or in the case of Williams already signed. If Abdelmassih is doing the latter I don't see his prediction of working for Fred again coming to fruition.

What a horrible 3 weeks when it really looked like we were about to bust through to the next level. Normally swaping TJ for Matt is an upgrade overall imo, but not this off-season. We really had a decent shot at not only the McD AA game MVP, but the recruit who would have been the missing piece to becoming a legitimate national title contender. Lose Williams too? Tough offseason, already.

Maybe we should let the dust settle before writing players/recruits off. Still can be a productive off season.

Lavin was still the head coach the day Fred was suppose to visit

I'm sure plenty of people knew Lavin wasn't going to the be the coach. Heck I bet Mullin already told them he would take the job before they actually let Lavin go. I be Mullin and Matt A. had things worked out before Matt even left for New York.

I guess in theory we could still sign Diallo, keep Williams, add a couple good transfers, and get the same recognition for one of the biggest 1st round upsets as we would have for a S16 or EE run.

Of course it is possible, but unlikely. It is not often you end up ahead after the events of the past three weeks.
