This is actually coded in law, as well...licensed daycares can't have as many infants per worker.

Unless it has changed, it is four to one. At the end of the day it could be really really hard cuddling/caring for four infants by yourself.

As for babyfood, I did buy some. It think the process of the ones I bought was similar to canning. There were not preservatives in it. Not that she ate all store bought either.

One attendant can read to 5 or more toddlers at a time, or play a game with them, or supervise them. Infants need more one on one attention, more attendants required. More labor costs = more expensive cost to parents. As for the diapers & food - well, with so many brands & preferences for each of those items, I can see why day care services opt out and tell the parents to supply their own!

I'm guilty of that too; I made all my kids' baby food from fresh fruits & vegetables (their grandparents owned an orchard...free fruit). I pureed the different items & froze them in condiment cups I bought from a local fast food restaurant. My kids never ate Gerber; their food contained no preservatives, no salt, etc.

Did they have processors back then or did you have to use a mortor and pestle?

The daycare business is tough. As I have discussed my wife has had an in home daycare for a little over a year and will be moving it back to Iowa with us. I know it can seem expensive but it is a business. You are paying for food, toys, craft supplies as well as other things (my wife does ABC mouse with them). When she had 4-6 kids we were budgeting $100 week on groceries alone for the daycare.

She charges $30/day and was open from roughly 7:15-5:45. She is not trying to take anyone to the cleaners but would like to make a livable wage (although I would prefer her making much more) and to be home with our son.

I was thinking more of the larger daycares. I also appreciate hearing the at home care side of it too.

I would think this would be unpopular with these kids' parents....I mean, that's either going to be a really long drive, or perhaps kidnapping.

:/

butwaitaminute...."will" be moving it back to Iowa with us? Is that just shorthand for your preferences, or did I miss a development somewhere? I mean, I'm assuming the former, but just making sure.

Is it just me, or did the way the BB season ended just ensure that the grumblies will be extra grumbly about football until at least halfway thru the football season? (it might well be thru the whole season, but if for some unforeseen reason we start off good, I think it'd take at least half a season to quiet them)

I mean, I'm not really optimistic about the upcoming season, either, but at this point, I also don't feel like it's productive to wail, gnash teeth, and flail myself about over it in the same ways that others have done 10,000 times before.

I still haven't gone to any board other than this one. I was tempted to go to the basketball board after the Custer transfer, but figured it would mostly just be people talking BS about him and saying stupid **** like when Matt Thomas is going to transfer.

It is in the contract they signed. ;)

Nothing that you don't already know. We can't afford to stay here with the jobs I am finding so we have decided to sell the house and move back easter weekend.

Oh Em Gee! You're my mom's age?! That's like, SO ancient!

This made me realize that 00clone should cool it with the KC old comments because this statement could conceivably apply to me.

Actually, yesterday I calculated that my HS classmate's child is now old enough to legally buy beer by probably a year or two.

Double

I briefly waded into the thread with Rob Gray's story about the Juco's only to re-enact the Grampa Simpson gif.

Honestly, I don't think it would have matter.

Ahh, okay, so kind of in-between my two scenarios. Well, welcome back, then. If ya get bored some morning, give me a shout, I'm around until 1 or so. Being on 2nd shift, and having been unemployed, I know those mornings can be the worst...but I guess you got the wife and kiddo....
