Bracketology 2015...

Joe Lunardi is really not very good at predicting seeding. He is good a predicting which teams will be in and which will be out, which really isn't as hard as you think. I have a hard time believing we are still a 3 seed if selection sunday were today. I would bet money on a 4.

The encouraging thing is that about half the bracket makers still have ISU as a 3 which means it is certainly on the table. Every power 5 team except for five of them has a loss left on their schedule thanks to conference tournaments. To be honest, I can't say I'd rather have a 3 over a 4 without looking at the bracket either.

I find it so incredible that the B1G has 7 teams projected this year with the pile of **** they've become. I can make a case for 4 or possibly 5 teams but after that it's taking away spots from teams that better deserve it in lower conferences - or a spot or two from the Big XII where every team is capable.
I can see the BIG having that many teams but their seeds will create a tough draw for the bulk of them. There are a lot of very average teams across the country and the BIG has a bunch of them.

Bracketmatrix currently has ISU, OU, and Baylor as 3 seeds. What are the odds that the Big 12 gets 3 or 4 teams in the Sweet 16? Would be fun to throw that into Big Ten fans faces.

It would definitely be helpful for the B12 after the poor tournament performances the last two seasons. The B10 has backed up its hype with solid tournament showings the last two years, now it's time for the B12 to do the same.

Big 12 was bad two years ago, last year was just unfortunate injuries for the top 2 teams.

I know a healthy Embiid and Niang would have changed things, but it's still been two years without getting a team past the sweet 16, need to change that this year, and I think that will happen.

I have a hard time believing we are a 3 and Baylor a 4 as of today ( their RPI is 9), but this all all conjecture at this point

The thing is, ISU still somewhat controls what seed we get for March Madness. Win our next three games (Oklahoma, at TCU, and next Thursday in KC) and I think we'd safely be a 3 seed. In other words, we are that close to being considered one of the 12 best teams in the country; the fanbases of 339 other NCAA Division 1 teams would gladly trade places with us.

But it all starts with tonight's game. Must destroy OU.

Agree. There is no way in hell we are a 3 seed at this point! We could still get there. Iowa State needs more wins for a 3 seed. Think we are a 4-5 seed right now.

I for one hope that no B12 teams get past the Sweet 16 unless it's ISU. I freaking HATE the conference crap. Only teh morans try to hype up their own team by how well their conference does in a single elimination neutral court tournament setting.

Agree with this analysis. Lose one of the last two regular season games and I think it gets tough to stay a 3 or 4 unless we win the conference tournament. Looked back at the last few years and there were only two teams that were top-4 seeds with more than 8 losses. Kansas was a #4 last year with 9 losses and Syracuse was a #4 in 2013 with 9 losses. No team with 10 losses have been a top 4 seed.

Seeding is based on the full body of work. Ranking drifts with the wind and is affected by what teams around you do each week. I think anywhere between a 3 and 4 is accurate, but certainly depends on what we do this week.

Kansas would have won the whole thing with a healthy Embiid. That guy was a force.

I think that guard court was still pretty weak with Tharpe and Selden starting. Plus, they still lost games with Embiid (even after Self was done giving him the Oubre treatment) when they faced teams with size. SDSU beat them when Embiid put up a huge line. Other teams beat them because he averaged about 6 fouls per 40 last year, and struggled to stay on the court.

Embiid was a stud, and anything can happen in March, but I don't think that KU team was even a sure Sweet 16 team even with Embiid.

#1 seed Virginia has 2 points and 10 turnovers thus far. Everyone can have a bad 12 minutes.

At this point I would put us right on the line between being a three seed and being a four seed (particularly if we win tonight).

My best guesses:
0 more wins: 5/6 seed
1 more win: 4/5 seed
2 more wins: 3/4 seed
3 more wins: 3 seed
4 more wins: 3 seed
5 more wins: 2/3 seed

Lunardi has all 3 Iowa schools in the same bracket. Highly unlikely, but would be pretty cool to see.
