Ctrl Alt Delete for Cyclone Football

I resisted thinking or even saying this back when it looked like we were going to be a Mountain West conference team......but maybe we should be Mountain West team or an American Conference team. You really have to try and maintain your faith on days like today........
Someone else mentioned coaching "momentum"....this is true. The momentum equates to compounding recruiting success and GOOD assistant coach retention. The upward momentum has been gone from this group since losing to West Virginia at home prior to the Liberty Bowl....you could argue the failed two-point conversion against Nebraska at home. Ugh.

Forget initials. GET. THE. ****. OUT.

....i've found that if I just hit a bunch of keys or F1 a bunch then my computer eventually beeps and works for a while longer.

The football team gets blown out too often.

That's all I got.

Geoffrey was a bit of an absent-minded professor type, but a really nice guy.

Leath is just pompous and comes off badly, to me. I wish we'd found a Midwesterner or promoted somebody effective from within instead of going for that East Coast feel. Get enough of that all day long.

I were Pollard, I'd go straight to Sage for head coach. Not even kidding.

It worked with Hoiberg. Why not try to catch lightning in the bottle twice?

-both are two of the best players in the history of the school
-both had long professional careers--mostly played spot minutes, but they were always there
-interacted/learned from some of the best in the business, from Larry Bird and Kevin Garnett to Tom Coughlin and Brett Favre
-native Iowans, connected to the community, would be honored to have the position
-both would run their programs like a professional squad
-sure each could attract some veteran-but-down-on-their-luck coaches of their own to learn from (ones looking for a fresh start or one last gig or two before retiring)
-both were, probably, all things considered, relatively cheap to start, too, and any success would justify a pay raise and "pay for itself" with increased interest in the program

Yes, I know, crazy, but we've tried the somebody-else's-coordinators and the successful-at-the-mid-major-level tact so many times, why not do something crazy at this point?

But Leath brings in research dollars....federal research dollars...federal dollars contributing to a deficit that is unsustainable.....All is well.

Federal research dollars are not the unsustainable part of the budget...in fact they probably contribute to revenue to some degree. The military and grandma living to long are what is unsustainable.

One man's crazy is another man's out of the box thinking. Sage would be the latter in my mind. Like Fred, he has journeyed around and seen a lot of management styles in the League. Probably has a good sense of what does, and doesn't work, from a leadership standpoint. Not so insecure as to allow some veteran guys come in and help him. Probably has some great contacts to boot. My original idea was put up to inject some fresh thinking into this situation. Whether its a special advisory group, or just a great out of the box hire, it's time to get out of this rut. The school hasn't made a good hire for the football coach position for 41 years. That's pathetic.

I'm too lazy to look it up... but have you EVER posted here without mentioning the Liberty Bowl? Jesus man....

LOL - if our AD needs a committee to figure out how to make a head coaching hire and right basically the only thing that truly matters in Power 5 conference sports, then we need a new AD. That is in the job description.

Disclaimer: I am a Pollard fan for the most part
I am a big Pollard fan too. He just needs help with big picture for FB.

This program badly needs a re-boot. Past history suggests that institutionally (President, AD, Boosters) ISU just doesn't know how to "do" football. I'm pretty vocal on here today saying Rhoads should be done. Either way, I think the AD could benefit from some outside help that could provide some no holds barred analysis and advice as to how to move this football program forward. It could be a mix of college and NFL, player, coach, management experience. I could see a group of 3-5 that could provide a blue print for how to get out of the bottom of the conference. Just of the top of my head, I could see John Cooper, Bill Polian and Sage Rosenfels making one heck of a committee. I'd be interested in others' thoughts as to who could act in an advisory role to ISU to help stop the string of bad decision making that has plagued this program.

You want to reboot the football program, just send money and lots of it. You can start today by sending in your $10 Million and get your buddies to do the same. Then after get about $100 million, then we might be able to start to compete.

Currrently spending $60 million on stadium expansion. Just spent $20 million on football facility. If you are saying some of that money should be spent on people instead of buildings you might have a point. Money will always be finite for every enterprise (except the Fed govt,). Well run enterprises take a 360 degree look at what they can do better. That means leveraging strengths, overcoming weakness. Since nobody is cutting a $100 mil check soon, maybe it's worth trying to figure out how to do more with less. Worth a try. No evidence of any kind of plan currently. CPR throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

I wish I could click a thumbs down button on this post.

Well, I certainly hope that you have been as willing to part with your dollars to support the program as you have with your incorrect understanding of the situation that Iowa State was in just 3 years ago.

Fully expect you to max out donations then because the program needs them more than anything else.

That is what I figured, you don't put your money where your mouth is.

I knew that you fundementally didn't understand when you didn't understand the effect of the implications of the rumors of getting kicked out of the BCS had on recruiting. So my expectations of you are pretty low.

But to not fundementally understand the level of financial donations needed to compete at the level that some of you drizzlers seem to think we should just magically be able to is a whole different level of wrong.

Sorry, I don't have $10 million to spare. I guess I'll just have to go back to drizzling, whatever that is.

Cliff Kingsbury supports this message. And TTU is really good... oh, wait.
