Pop Songs about Iowa/Iowa Towns

4th Street Moon by Stephen Kellogg is about Cedar Falls. Well, not about it but written there after a gig at The Hub which is on 4th Street.

It's a really good song.

That's a good one! He also mentions Eldon, Ottumwa, Mt. Pleasant and Burlington in the song. The drummer is wearing a Case iH t-shirt so he must be in the red zone. The sax player does a heck of a job. What's a "floater"?

Fairfield was home to Fairfield College which was taken over by Maharishi University http://www.mum.edu/ in the '70's (I think). The school made Transcendental Meditation part of its curriculum. In a trance practitioners claimed to levitate..."float"...in reality they hopped around on wrestling mats. "Floaters" made national news and added whimsy to the school, Fairfield and Iowa.

Crap, I should have made the connection! duh I remember when they bought it too. Thanks for jogging my memory!

It was Parsons College. And whimsy? Yeah.... Probably not the word I'd use.

Piledriver by Damn Yankees.

I was cruizin' backstage in Des Moines, Iowa
And a little girl comes up next to me and says
"Mr. Nugent do you think my skirt is short enough?"
I said, "Baby, you want to be alive you've got to piledrive!"

If anyone is interested in updating the links that would be great in this fun old thread.

Here is a story I've never heard of:
