Nighttime Prowler Caught In Action

To me, it appeared the guy was casing the place and probably had a group coming to make a quick grab of what he had spotted.

Kind of creepy.

It looked like he was looking for something small, valuable, and easily hidden. Why else would he spend more than 10 minutes sifting through things?

And that was more than kind of creepy.

IMO, so when his accomplices came they could quickly pick up the wanted items. Less time wasted when they arrive to load things. And also they don't rob if there is nothing valuable there. Although your scenario is possible, how many of us have extremely small valuable items located in our garage?

Very creepy.

My parents live in a very nice neighborhood in Saint Paul and have only had their garage broken into once in 43 years (knock on wood). My dad will leave the cars unlocked, though, because he says if a burglar is going to take something he'd rather not have to replace a car window too. He also keep a radio on 24/7 out there because if someone is in the alley they probably won't go into a garage with noise coming from it.

What is big now is shooting paintballs at garage doors.

Everything in the top paragraph is a really good strategy actually. I've heard the keep the car unlocked strategy. I've never heard the radio strategy but it makes perfect sense.

Nice job, papa mtown!

Like I said, I think he may have been looking for drugs - or something else very specific.

The part that is most troubling is the amount of time that he spent in the garage.

It looks like the car dome light came on later?
Did your son wake up at all, especially at the end? My dog probably would have barked at that much noise.

This is going to be a bigger and bigger problem, nation wide I believe. Where I live (southern Oregon), the meth heads are rampant, and there is never enough money for jails around these parts (politics). I am shopping currently for a multiple camera system, as well as putting in some things specifically for this sort of incident.

I lock everything down, leave a radio on just loud enough you can hear it through the garage door, etc. I am always moving cars around, and often will have friends either stay or stop by when I am out of town over night.

A friend of mine owns a tree and landscape business....caught a guy on camera bust into his garage, and take a $1000 saw (Stihl 066 with Cannon bar), in the middle of the day this summer. From the footage, could recognize the car, and license plate. Within a day we found the car, and obviously notified the police. Police went there, but the guy was not to be found. My friend was stewing about it, so we went to the house with the car the next day (four dudes, guns, etc). Step son answered the door and was obviously wondering wtf, and asked if this guy was in line for an *** kicking. We laughed, and said, well, kinda. He said "good....I hate that muther ******!". Kid calls the dude, and my friend talks to him. Guy acts tough, and says to not mess with his family, and such....he was dumb enough to not realize his step son and old lady were itching to rat him out. Saw was returned by a third party that night. This guy is still running loose, but will likely have some bad luck sooner or later.

Yeah I know...cool story bro.

That scares me, I have never owned a handgun or a baseball bat, (true fact) watching that video makes me think. Someone that brazen could stumble upon my bedroom, my outbuildings, etc. Seriously that prowler really ****** me off.

Live a few miles from this place http://www.siouxlandnews.com/story/24967844/3-arrested-in If you dont want to click the link its 3 Iowa Metheads killed an 80 and 81 year old couple when they caught them stealing scrap metal out at there farm. I bought a handgun this spring as I plan to live outside of town, meth does some messed up stuff to some people when their looking for a few dollars for their next fix.

Unattached 3 car garage with alley access for garage doors. Entry appears to be the foot door. Garage is located approximately 40 feet away from the house. My son had set the alerts on his Drop Down Camera because they had gotten false alarms in the past to Do Not Disturb. If he had been alerted immediately he would have known there was a Prowler. But also might have been tempted to confront him. And that might not have been good in any scenario. Hopefully the Police can use the video to catch him. It looked like he had a Tattoo or something on his right forearm. Perhaps he is part of a larger ring and the Police want to catch the group. But my son did not wake up from their Upstairs Bedroom located more to the middle and front of the house while the garage is in back.

While watching the video I saw one of the sidebar links included this very simple fix to make your overhead garage door harder to trip by fishing a wire through. Just a simple plastic tie fix. Think I'll do this.

At my house in Waterloo, every night, I stuck crowbar through the garage door track. Door wouldn't move an inch with it in there. Only took one garage break in for em to stick motion sensors all over the back of that house lol.

Classic video. I'm guessing your son had been burglarized previously, thus the camera?

Question about DropCam. Does anyone know, does it suck up internet bandwidth all the time or does it just kick on when it senses motion?

On the news this morning they said there has been a rash of burglaries of detached garages
