Every time I see the ice water challenge on Facebook I get ******. What did you just accomplish? I bet most of those people don't even know what ALS stands for. How about you donate money instead of trying to fit in and be cool by pouring water on your head.

Today, The ALS Association announced it has surpassed $10 million in “Ice Bucket” donations. Specifically, as of Saturday, August 16, 2014, The ALS Association has received $11.4 million in donations compared to $1.7 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 16). These donations have come from existing donors and 220,255 new donors to The Association.

Yeah, this has already been covered in the non-random thread on this topic.

I was wondering the same thing at first. Then I started reading up on it. The name recognition and the free advertising all over social media (along with big names that they don't have to pay to be spokespersons) have greatly increased overall donations. It may look hokey, it may look fake, but it's doing a helluva lot for the research foundation.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. aka ALS. aka Lou Gehrig's disease. aka the ***** that took a good friend of mine.

Quit being ****** and read about it, and start cheering the end result.

Totally agree. Aye. - I just got called out and challenged to do it. It's not going to happen. I had an aunt die of ALS and my sister-in-law's father. It is a wicked disease. I want to know how many actually donate money. I feel like this video craze trivializes it.

I also loathe all thinks pink for breast cancer 'awareness'. Because there are people who don't know about it? I assume I'll be diagnosed with it some day and people will give me a bunch of pink stuff and I'll have to act grateful - that's how karma will bite me.

since they are changing some things up, they might as well delete the NDSU v Iowa state thread and ban lakes

Seriously, when will you people learn to stop sniping about this challenge?

'tis better to stay quiet and have people wonder if you're dumb, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Anyone want to swing by and drop off dinner for me while I'm at work? My night just seemed to get a little longer.

What I wouldn't do for a Jimmy John's in this town.

CW has some 'splaining to do

I like to use the new posts feature in the dropdown under forums so that I can keep up with conversations in threads like this where I've commented. Right now that is redirecting me to the forum index, which I don't normally use.

Now I get to the new post page by using the "new post" tab in the black menu bar under "what's new". I love trying to figure out new formats.

What the heck is wrong with CF this summer? Is it me, or is there an abundance of people going after one another? I can understand those who rail on twocoach or lakesbison or other undesirables (though they are fairly harmless IMO), but it seems like CFers are turning on each other with regularity. Has it always been that way, or is there something in the water around here?
