NBA Draft 2014

Marble drafted and not Kane

I don't get it. A ball stopper gets picked and a team leader who i think everyone on the team loved didn't get selected. Somebody help me out with this, I'm really confused right now.

I'm pretty sure you're misinterpreting most peoples' reasons for being upset. It has nothing to do with whether we think ISU is a successful team or not.
I meant to say respect there. With all that success, Kane and Ejim were still recognized by scouts and they both still have very eligible shots at the NBA. They're not done playing just yet.

Not sure why all the outrage in this thread other than maybe all those freaking out did not follow any NBA draft coverage prior to tonight. Marble was always going to be the first taken (if any were going to be drafted).

There are two things that can make a player almost undraftable. Being a tweener and being old. Unfortunately Ejim is a major tweener and Kane is really old. Marble has neither against him which is why I'm not surprised someone took a chance on him late.

I can't speak for others, but for me it has nothing to do with respect of ISU. It's just stupidity to me, though I can understand "Ejim is undersized" talks. I'm just as confused about guys like Patric Young and CJ Fair not being drafted while some others were as guys like Kane.

It's not the end of the world to go undrafted rather than go in the 50's, but I just saw a tweet by Will Clyburn that kind of sums it up....two players that dominated the Big 12 went undrafted. Sometimes the NBA is stupid.

I get why Kane wasn't taken over the first round pg/sg like Exum and a few others but I just don't see the second round guards having some amazing untapped potential, some weren't even much younger. I think Kane will truly abuse some people in the summer league…we know he outplayed one of the top ten picks this year in a one on one matchup while providing drastically better leadership.

I am much more of an NBA fan than college hoops and I can't say I agree with the crowd that say it's better to be undrafted than late second round. It can be in certain scenarios, but I'm afraid it's wishful thinking by many. I've seen too many second round draft picks hang around longer than they should have, likely because a GM wants to be right.

If I was an NBA GM I would of drafted Kane in the second round. Going undrafted is not surprising. I wouldn't have considered Ejim with a pick. I'd give him a look for a summer league team. I just don't see how his game really translates. Maybe give him a shot at a camp and see how he does, but him being drafted would have been a surprise.

Re: Marble drafted and not Kane

use the nba draft thread

Re: Marble drafted and not Kane

@CyRhino: Congrats to the nuggets for drafting the Marble duo. Colorado should be a great state for Sr since he enjoys hitting things

You realize that Marble was traded to Orlando, right?

To be fair, they did almost make the tournament.

I like crediting Iowa for a first round NCAA tourney game and that Fred has advanced NINE ROUNDS further than Mad Fran in just 4 seasons…after they realize that's not made up and the actual truth they generally prefer saying they haven't made the NCAA in a decade.

I couldn't help but think of Blalock with the talk of debate between being a late second round pick or going undrafted. It provides a case of example to me that you are no more secure that route than going through Free agency.

Lavine is 6 years younger and much more athletic.

He has 10x the potential of Kane? 10x the potential of a first team All Big 12 player who outplayed Marcus Smart? It's kind of a ridiculous statement to make. He has 10x the potential of some message board posters, he doesn't have 10x the potential of any elite college players.
