FWIW... sounds like Iowa did make an offer to Ross Reynolds and he accepted. Grey shirt opportunity that will likely grow into a full scholarship: http://iowa.scout.com/2/1369515.html

Meeker certainly has great size. I don't know anything about intangibles though. He could end up being a great player. Must have been something that kept them from extending an offer.

According to Rivals, yes. He's not rated on Scout which means they have him below a 2 star. 247 has him as #3 in Iowa

How bad is Iowa HS football talent? Even Rivals (where he is #1 in the state) only has him as a 3*. There aren't a lot of high level recruits and no where near enough D-I caliber athletes to fill out the rosters of two Power 5 programs. Winning the in-state battle is good for PR and fan bragging rights but little else.

Not sure what that #1 is referring to, but there is no way this guy is #1 in the state.

Although Hill turned out to be a bust he was in the same situation and even though everybody thought Hill was in ISU's corner he bolted as soon as Iowa made him feel important.

Right, same was said by Kakert when talking about Colin Bevins too. How did that end up?

Fair enough, but Barkley Hill was already carrying an offer from Iowa at this point in the recruiting process (Committed to ISU in April, Iowa offered in May). Doesn't change the fact that the same weak *** line gets trotted out every single time.

Probably because they have the Paulsen twins and Newborg on board already. Add to that Reynolds who will count toward 2015 scholly limit and your at 4 (2 at guard, 2 at tackle) 2015 OL in this class.

Agreed. It's just a little befuddling to me because Meeker has great size and could have solid potential. Plus he grew up 20 minutes from Iowa City. They bring in the other 4 in-state OL and don't extend an offer to Meeker. Smells fishy to me. That's all. I'm sure I'll get bashed for saying so, but it's just how I feel. It doesn't quite add up.

I'm glad we got this kid. While many are frustrated about the "we didn't want him" stuff from Iowa, I would say I'd feel a bit better if Iowa had offered. They've obviously seen him many times and have chosen not to offer, finding other recruits more worthy of a scholarship. Say what you want about Iowa, but Kirk and the crew does seem to have a good eye for o-line talent, and it would be nice if they had also wanted him.

That was far too complementary and I'm going to go chug some Listerine now...

Just got off the phone with CR Prairie OL Bryce Meeker, who called Iowa State his "dream school" in explaining commitment decision today.

Love converting former Hawks to the good guys!

Who is the 4th?

Maybe Iowa didn't like his footwork or something. Oh well, looks like a beast already.

He recently camped at Iowa, and didn't receive an offer. He plays at CR Prairie so he's right in Iowa's backyard. makes me wonder why Iowa never made an offer. They do already have the Paulsen twins. That might be part of it. Here's a link with a write up about Iowa's dealings with Meeker *(towards the bottom):

Iowa's Chances with Bryce Meeker: To be fair, Iowa hasn't offered Meeker, and if they did, I think we'd be looking at a different story. Meeker has been around Iowa's radar though, and he's an intriguing offensive tackle recruit at 6-foot-7, 290 pounds. He has the length a program like Iowa covets on the edges of the offensive line.
Apparently Iowa never saw what they wanted to see out of Meeker though, because he's been to countless camps and junior days, and has yet to receive an offer.

I've predicted Meeker will end up at Iowa State

Iowa State saw him at camp and pulled the trigger on an offer a few days ago, and now it looks like a underrated recruit who would have been a guaranteed Hawkeye had he received an offer, will end up in Ames.
Sure, the Hawks can still offer, but at this point since they've waited so long; I'm not sure they will.

Perfect. He'll come in with a chip on his shoulder ready to prove they were wrong. Welcome, Bryce, to a school and coaching staff that wants you.
