Has ISU ever had a 7 footer that amounted to anything? All I can think of are Skoglund and that Chris Alexander guy that was only here for like a semester. Maybe there was another guy from New Zealand or something that rode the bench?

Not sure but Fred Hoiberg has never signed one so it's a clean slate as far as I'm concerned.

He is 7'1". That's the bottom line.
You can always add skills to your game, but you cannot add height. There's a huge difference playing against 6'9" guy vs. 7'1" guy. Glad he is on our roster, not others.

Cato was pretty much 7'...

Julo was 6'10".

The NZ guy you're thinking of was probably Tony Rampton...7' but I think he was from Australia.

Why are some of you so down on this kid? Are you finding more information on him than the tiny amount the rest of us are seeing?
I don't think most are down on him, there's just not much info out there and the competition in that highlight video looked like my 7-year-old girl's team so there's not any evidence that he'll come in and be a stud from day 1.

It's funny how some of you are like "In Fred we trust!" all the time. Then he signs a foreign kid and you're like "I don't know if I can trust Fred on this one after seeing a 6 minute YouTube video..."

Is anyone saying he's not a good prospect?

I agree, but then I don't think that we need him to be a stud right away. I could even see him redshirting.

I think a lot of it stems from the fact he's played a lot of U-17 competition in Greek leagues which is probably < most US high school competition. Although I do think he put up some pretty respectable numbers against their semi-pro league competition. If Fraschilla says he's a nice prospect, I agree. I'd rather have a 7'1" prospect/project than a 6'5" guy.

He's 17, so should be playing high school competition. Most freshman in college have only played high school level competition. I don't get that argument.

I forgot about Hubalik and Vanderbeken...they were 6'11''.

You aren't understanding what I'm saying. Everyone says "Fred knows what he's doing!" and "In Fred I trust!" but then people on here watch a 6 minute YouTube video (because I'm sure Fred and staff ONLY watched the same highlights) and want to go against what the coaching staff has basically decided in offering the kid a spot on the squad.

I don't even care if he can shoot, his height and length will force teams to play us differently and looks like he has good shot blocking technique

What are you talking about? No one has questioned the fact that he was given a scholarship.
