Whoops; three are walkons. I mean if you look at it Ogelsby had major conference offers, Uthoff had major conference offers, Woodbury had major conference offers. None of those three are reach's and you could argue McCabe and Jok are fine players. I could care less what state the players come from.
I have no idea why I keep doing that because it's a pet peeve of mine as well. COULDNT CARE LESS
I'm sure that's how it will start. The most interesting thing about the game to me is whether Iowa forces ISU to play big, or ISU forces Iowa to play small.
Both teams start with 2 guards and 3 forwards, so the matchups make sense. But once one of Ejim/Niang/Hogue sub out, ISU plays 3 guards, bringing in Naz or Monte. At that point the Naz/Kane vs White/Uthoff mismatch becomes very interesting. Will ISU be able to take advantage of that mismatch and force Iowa to play 3 of their 4 guards at the same time? Or will they slide into a zone and make ISU shoot over their length (yes please!). And how will ISU defend that mismatch on the defensive end?
I'm very curious to find out.
I agree with you about the players - it makes no difference where they are from - only if they can play, they can take care of business in the classroom, they can keep their noses clean and they can fit in the system you are running.
That is why I don't get why that guy even brought it up. Trolling is tough when you can't keep your thoughts organized.
I mean, I get the point a little, I'd rather have 15 top 100 guys from Chicago on our team, but thats not realistic so who cares where they are from.
Knowing Fred he is going to force that issue early. ISU has guards that are quick and can drive to the basket. Matching a smaller and faster guy on some bigger and slower player for Iowa is what you want. The tendency when someone beats you off the dribble is to reach or grab at them. Iowa will have to extend out on the perimeter because ISU is such a big threat shooting the 3 which will open plenty of room for guys to drive. That sets up easy buckets in the paint and also puts Iowa in a position where they may pick up a bunch of cheap fouls. ISU can take advantage of the new rules to pile up some fouls on Iowa.
Woodbury won't play much unless there is foul trouble. Fran realizes that his slow and unathletic 7 foot tall big man that averages 4 rebounds a game won't be fast enough to guard our guys in the paint.
LOL. Is this real life? Seriously, if you are 7 feet tall you should be getting more than four rebounds a game. That's terrible, you'd think more than 4 would just happen to fall into your hands through the course of a game.
What he meant was the kids born in Iowa know, care, and maybe even love this rivalry while outsiders to the state may not. Does anyone in Iowa care about the Seton Hall vs. Rutgers rivalry? Probably not. Would a high school kid that grew up watching the rivalry care though? Absolutely.
Hard to rebound when 9 people on the court are going one direction and you are going the other. He does have a good view of the game though.
