IOWA vs IOWA STATE

Could we start a separate thread for the student section BS? In the end, who really gives a eff? If he's a d-bag I'm guessing he'll be made to feel uncomfortable.

Some analysis.. Control Marble, get back in transition, and have a normal shooting night = Cyclones win by 10. I've watched Iowa quite a bit so far this season (family are Hawk fans), and their lack of a halfcourt offense is a killer. If they can't get out and run (we need to be smart with the ball) then they rely far too much on Marble to create offense.

Also, their defense has kind of surprised me this season. After seeing what Sherman from ND did to them, Melvin and George shouldn't have much problem. They can't really go to a zone either as we have too many shooters. I'm really interested to see what Mad Fran does defensively to open the game. I can't wait to see if they put Gesell on Kane, if they do we'll see him posting up all night. If they put Marble on Kane to prevent it, that opens up our other wings.

Lets say Iowa starts Gesell, Marble, White, Basabe, and Woodbury. How do we match-up defensively? Thomas on Gesell, Kane on Marble, Hogue on White, Mel on Basabe, and Georges on Woodbury? Then Naz or Hogue taking Marble. Monte and Thomas taking care of either Gesell or Clemmons. Georges, Mel, and Hogue handling any of Woodbury, McCabe, Basabe, Uthof (no idea on spelling) etc. I really like how well we match-up.

If the guy is willing to sit in the student section, surrounded by rabid ISU fans, that's his problem not ours.

If he wears a hawk shirt in the student section then he's a dbag and should be treated as such. If he goes neutral clothing, I guess no biggie since he's with his friends.

I agree for the most part but the defense has been pretty good, save second half of game 3 in three days of tourney where Nova was white hot, and game 2 days later where they were obviously running on E.

I don't like how we match up. Their size/length in the front court scares the hell out of me. We haven't played a team like that all year while Iowa has played 2 teams similar to us. Villanova and Notre Dame are similar to us(smaller lineup with a lot of guards that like to shoot 3's). Iowa is like a hockey team with how they sub and that wears down opponents. Not only do they have depth, but they have quality depth unlike us. I think we win, but by 5 max.

I hadn't thought about the teams Iowa has played compared to ISU but it's a fair comparison. Hopefully Fran made some adjustments because if the D plays like they did against Nova and ND, Iowa is going to lose by 15+.

Huh? You realize Hoiball makes teams play small right...we don't match up against teams, they match up against us.

Keep in mind they lost Villanova and played a very tight ball game with ND (at home). Also, we are way better than ND because our front court is far more dynamic. Remember last year when they tried to go small against us (ND)?

I expect this game will be Niang's coming out party this year. He's been fairly low key, playing really well in crunch time against Michigan and BYU, but I see him lighting up Iowa for some reason.

I'm not worried about getting worn down in the least. Foul trouble is my primary concern. If we stay out of foul trouble I'm not particularly concerned. I do think we'll have to deal with it so it will be nailbiting. This game is an interesting matchup and i can't be 100% sure who has the advantage. Hilton is the difference.

Their quality depth is made up. I don't get why people think they are much better with depth. Yes they have depth but so do we. Only person that has a chance to play that worried me is KJ but even if he plays I think he plays ok. Remember when he does play he is one of the only scoters and he also is trying to prove himself. That makes him press to much and take bad shots. If he would have to play I look for him to play well.

No it's not. When we played Michigan and BYU only 7 players played 10 or more minuets. When Iowa played Xavier, Villanova, and Notre Dame they had 9 players play 10 or more minuets. I'm not saying we don't have depth, I'm saying that we don't have quality depth. I hope that people like Edozie, KJ, and Gibson don't play because that means that we are probably winning.

Are you serious? Our depth may not be as experienced, but in terms of talent it's at least equal to Iowa's. And our starting 5 is better than theirs. As long as our youngsters play above their age, which they have most of this season already, depth isn't a concern for ISU.

Comes here bragging about getting a cheap ticket in student section and ability to sit in front since he attends VodkaU and has no classes on Friday. Dbag determination made.

Edozie and SDW are clearly capable of playing more than 10 minutes of quality basketball. Edozie made the play of the game against BYU.

That doesn't mean we don't have quality depth. And it certainly doesn't mean Iowa has quality depth.

All it really means is that the coaches differ on playing rotation philosophies. Fred plays a 7-man rotation. Fran plays a 9 or 10 man rotation.

I truly think if Fran were coaching this ISU team (*shudder*) he'd play a 10 man rotation with SDW, Edozie and Gibson all getting at least 12 minutes a game.

And if Fred were coaching that Iowa team, he'd play a 8-man rotation (Gessell, Marble, White, Basabe and Olaseni starting, with McCabe, Clemmons and Uthoff off the bench)

SDW didn't even play against Michigan or BYU and Edozie didn't play against Michigan and only 7 minutes against BYU, but yes he made a good play at the end of the game. So no they aren't clearly capable of playing more than 10 minuets of quality basketball against a quality team.

BYU had 3 guys 6'10 and up. Didn't seem to matter. We out athlete the hell out of them. And I haven't seen a team this tough since 1999-2001. I think you're just looking for reasons to be worried.
