*** Iowa State @ Oklahoma Game thread ***

Realistically that punt should of been fair caught or he should of let it go. It was risky for OU to field that punt. It worked out for them though.

I just do not like the playcalling at the end of the half. you are 1-8, what do you really have to lose by going for it. Honestly, I can forgive a coach for being aggressive when you are down like we are. I can't forgive being so conservative it comes back to bite you in the ***. Go for the win for ****'s sake. This is reallly reminding me of the Mac era and why he lost his job. Put your foot on their throat and cut off the oxygen. The offense was finally moving the ball good and we go into turtle mode to give OU all the momentum back.

Wally's defense is doing their job, offense and special teams need to step up.
Hey messingham, when Bundrage is lined up 1 on 1 to the left with the rest of the defense covering the right. Take a shot down the field with the wind and let Q make a play for god sakes.

He was blaming the punt return on coaching, which is just stupid.
Obviously you don't blame lack of tackling during a punt return on coaching.

Hey, don't tackle on this return!

We were very effectively moving the ball up until that last series. What changed? The playcalling went ultraconservative. Anyone who thinks someone was blaming the play on the field during the PR should just turn off their computer. The situation leading up to it? That is all coaching.

One thing about the Rhoads era that has made me want to punch babies is the end of the 1st half execution in like 90% of the GD games! There's always a score for the other team just waiting to be had as long as they bother to get on the field.
Only surpassed by Hoiberg era end of half (and games). Hiring Fred has been a home run, but clean that up and the first 3 years would have been incredible.

D needs to come up with some picks. First, continue to stop the run, but get some hands on passes/tip some balls or have Knight (the backup) make some errant throws. Have to take advantage of knocking out the #1, even if he isn't a good thrower.

Offense has to continue to run the ball well. Most importantly, have to recognize single coverage outside on Bundrage (in particular, when we have the wind to our advantage) and try a couple deep balls. What do we have to lose?

Maybe even go deep with Daley or someone other than Bundrage (if the coverage rolls his way). Just looks like whenever we bring someone in motion, the DB on the side of the motioning player sprints up to the LOS & and the safety shifts to the middle of the field. Sure looks like Bundrage or outside receiver (where the motion guys starts from) is getting freed up into man on man.

Frickin' OU. FUOU.

Whether we win or lose this game, the fans deserve a post-game apology for us not trying to drive the ball near midfield with 3 minutes left in the half. When we did that, I knew for sure that we would be going into the half at 10-10. There is just no reason to EVER do that. When you have the momentum, you USE IT! Don't **** it away! I am so entirely disappointed in CPR right now. It is that kind of crap that would never allow me to fully like Mac. I thought CPR knew better than that.

That's because they have no respect for us, and I don't blame them. Going on 4th down, fielding punts like that is just no respect for the opponent.

Im with you!!!! ISU with less than 2 minutes left is freaking awful... ESP in first half... I think we have given up three hail marys in less then 2 seasons... That has to be a NCAA record for sucking. :)

Texas this year, OU, Iowa, Tulsa all got a an easy/cheap pre-halftime score. Did tech get something easy as well? What about TCU? Last year there were many games as well. I recall off the top of my head KSU, OU for sure...probably at least 2-3 more.

It's maddening.

I do miss the days when Kirby was a good punter and could place kicks.... his punt into the wind earlier and during the TCU games were terrible.

Agreed. Kirby award chances have disappeared. He is being average.

This. They will make adjustments, we will not. Our coaches will think they can just continue to run the same schemes because they worked in the first half, but we'll get shut down.
Or it will take four three and outs in order to figure it out.

Halftime adjustments are exactly why you don't waste 1st half momentum by just trying to kill clock when you get the ball at the 50 yard line with three minutes to go.

I've got a bad feeling that the punt return cost us this game. They had zero momentum and looked lifeless. But not after the return.

The thing that drove me nuts about the return was that we had 2 or 3 guys down there, but they all ran past the returner before he even caught it. Why not slow down and surround him? Why run past him? Just another stupid boneheaded play that we always seem to make that cost us big time.

If OU takes this opening 2nd half kickoff down the field and puts up 7, I think it's over. We'll fold like a tent. I hope not, but that's usually our signature. As soon as we get down, it usually snowballs.

We MUST start well this 2nd half or watch out though.
