Ejim out 4-6 weeks

For what it's worth - Saw Mel today as he came into a class and chatted with him briefly. Walked down ~20 steep steps to the front, no limp. Was in good spirits.

I know its anecdotal, but it makes me think (read: hope) that it's not as bad as advertised.

Since we're trying to come up with positive spins or glasses-half-full: Team members will have to do more (and possibly different things) to fill the void. If they do it well, when Melvin returns it's almost like suddenly adding another good player.

How did I do?

If it was a bad hyper extension you would think it would be immobilized in some fashion and he would be with crutches. If he is walking up and down stairs with no apparent problems it can only be good.

Not bad. Let's hope this set back only makes the team better in the long run.

It's a loss no matter how you spin in, but better now that later... Or last year even. The blow will depend on how good Hogue is. Last year we didn't have Hogue, so either Gibson or Booker would have been starting.

If the rumors of Hogue being better than Ejim on the boards are true, and he still has the ability to slash to the hoop and put it back at this level then it comes down to our young guards.

All this extra playing time for the other guys could be a blessing for later in the year.. And speed up their development.

Last year we did also have Clyburn get rebounds, but it sounds like Kane will be doing that too. Plus Niang is a year better.

Wait, is this not the time or place for a Cosby?

I cannot imagine that Hogue is "better than" Melvin on the boards, or that an assertion of that nature could even be seriously considered at this point, but let's hope he is really good and tenacious.

I don't think it was ever said he was better. What was said was that he was a good rebounder and to evidence that Hoiberg said he had taken rebounds away from Ejim in practice which doesn't often happen.

Fire Fred.

Why stop there? It's clear that our entire athletic department -- nay, university -- is a walking catastrophe.

Fire Fred, fire Paul, fire Pollard, burn the athletic department to ashes, and relocate Iowa State University to McMurdo Station, Antarctica... where we might have a chance to compete against the Bellingshausen Penguins.

Hahaha! In all seriousness though, Percy Gibson will be relied on heavily. Wouldn't be surprised if you see minutes and production increase especially with defensive standpoint under the tutalege of Coach Doc Sadler. Percy showed some double figure games last season point wise. The game last season against Iowa he was in double figures and actually had a hell of a game. I think the fact that Percy is somewhat seasoned now (Junior class), and the fact that he has two seasons at Iowa State under his belt, that will bring confidence, and a sense of responsibility to become a leader. I predict Percy averaging around 8-9 points per game this season. He will be good! The doubters will see..
Did you also predict 6+ wins for the football team?

I'm still in the "Ejim will play against Michigan" boat especially after reading he isn't on crutches and wasn't limping up/down stairs.

maybe the whole injury is a ploy so Michigan will prepare for a non-Ejim lineup and he sits out every game til then but then is perfectly healthy and BOOM we beat Michigan

There you go being stupid again.

Whoever is feeding you these rumors doesn't know what they're talking about, or you are putting your own spin on them. Maybe stop posting?

How's Steele doing?

RustShack's reasoning process:

Hoiberg tells anecdote about Hogue ripping a rebound away from Ejim.
Hogue always rips rebounds away from Ejim.
Hogue is a better rebounder than Ejim.
Ejim averaged 9.3 rebounds last season.
Hogue will average 10 rebounds this season.

About right there, Rusty?

It's just a modification of something Fred and the guys mentioned. They've talked about Hogue getting right in there, and sometimes taking the ball right away from Melvin.

Pardon him for paying attention. I guess that's stupid.
