Let me start by saying I've got nothing and can find nothing concrete on this...but maybe mentioning his name on here will stir it up.....Hines may or may not be on it.

im on the last flight back to Des Moines last Sunday from Chicago. Pretty empty flight. So here comes this 6'8" kid and sits a couple rows back...just looks like a player.

so I ask him where he's going....he says Iowa state. What's your name? "Damontre McFarland".
(Silently going I've never heard of you anywhere)

"oh are you walking on?"
" No I'm on scholarship"

???????

Anyway...getting off the flight he calls A coach....and in part says he will or has to get to class tomorrow.

now....he committed to southern and they had a coaching change this summer. I can't find him on their roster for the year...and even if he was going to southern....why is he on a Des Moines flight sunday night to make Monday classes?

again...still efforting but pretty odd given now what's transpired with bubu......I mean this kid could be going to Iowa for all I know....so major disclaimers on this....

Bubu was at fanfest last Saturday though. Hard to imagine that the coaches would have have Bubu signing autographs if they already had a kid lined up to fill his scholarship within 24 hrs. It definitely would be a decent get, and from the looks of it basketball can't start early enough!

It's actually not that hard to imagine, they had to know there was a chance Bubu would get shown the door.

If Bubu's scholarship went to an incoming Freshman, that would leave us with 1 open scholarship for next year. Of course assuming no one transfers, and that his scholarship would be a 4-year scholarship.

Fred may have told him he'd have to pay his own way first semester, and then he would be put on scholarship in January. That is not out of the question. If the kid has the means to do so, 1 semester at ISU followed by a scholarship and a chance to play for ISU may not look to bad for him.

If Bubu started classes (so "used" some scholarship) it would be just like the lb from Phoenix last year, Pavlenko, who started classes before he got homesick and left therefore burning a schollie which ****** off CPR who wanted to use it on an engineering major player who was broke.

There is nothing replacement about that kid except for a scholly. A 6-8 project. Meh. Fred has shown he is really interested in this type of player. It's not like we're desperate to fill out the roster.

We have plenty of young exciting guard prospects but will miss Bubus experience at some point. (Hopefully not often)

Intriguing to say the least. I will echo, thank you for taking my mind off football.

Assuming this is all true and it indeed does happen for some reason, then Fred and co. Must be thinking that they won't land at least 2 of the 2014 guys they're after.

I will bet all my CF points this guy isn't on scholarship. Maybe on campus (can't confirm) but nothing more than a walk on.

You absolutely could be right. I'm just piecing a few things together and seeing if there's a correlation....that are if nothing else....peculiar in timing.
