Iowa State Fair attendance: 1 million
Minnesota State Fair attendance: 1.8 million
Texas State Fair attendance: 2.6 million

Anyone been to the Texas State Fair? I'm sure their attendance figures are greatly bolstered by Sooner fans...

I have not been there in probably close to 12-15 years but liked it as a kid. My wife has never been so if we ever move back or are up there while it is going we hope to go.

I agree - I would rank Minnesota State Fair #1, Iowa State Fair #2. But I love going to the Iowa State Fair.

Personally, I disagree on ranking Minny's fair over Iowa and CyclnSt8 hit upon why I actually like the ISF better than the MSF. I went to the Minnesota State Fair on a weekend once and vowed never to do it again. The crowds were ridiculous. Minnesota's fair on a weekday is like Iowa's on the busiest weekend day. I will only go to even the Iowa fair on a weekend under protest. Mrs. Velo is a huge fair fan so we generally do one day at each of the two every year.

The thing I don't understand is how people can go for an entire week and still find it fun on day 4 or 5.

I don't understand how people can go one day and find it fun. I am going at night to see Alan Jackson and Gary Allen play next Sunday. I will walk in, go to the concert, then leave.

Love the State Fair. My wife and I will be there about 5 days.

Top foods I have to eat at the fair: Jr Donuts, Dairy Barn Shake, Gyro, Hot Beef Sundae, Burger & Fries at Stockmans

Never heard of a Hot Beef Sundae before...I took a moment to google it and that looks awesome.

Just a curious question. Do those that hate/dislike the fair live in a city/town or the country? Just speculation here but I am gussing town. The state fair (at least Iowa's) is really geared toward country living/life. 4H, FFA, sheep/horse/pig/cattle barns, farm machinery, etc. I grew up on a farm and love going to the fair.

Just got back from State Fair and watching my daughter show pigs in the FFA show. Always love to go. Animal Learning center is awesome for little kids and great free concerts. Watched "The Farm" at the Knapp Amp one night, pretty good band.

I love to go on my own free will. When I have to go work a booth Monday and Tuesday it sucks. But I can see the ISU booth from there!!!

I am looking for a vendor named Chuckies Tenderloins. Does anybody know where they are located, or if they are even at the fair this year?

Not sure if you found this or still need it but they are right near the new bud stage in the SW corner of the grounds

We go one day every year so I guess I would have to say I like it. Went today and it was more crowded than I have ever seen it but we usually go later in the Fair so maybe that was the problem. My problems with the Fair are prices and the same problems you get with any large group of people. Only got run over by four strollers and one motorized wheelchair so I guess I should count myself lucky. Was there when a calf got born, that was kind of awesome. The Varied Industries building was just nearly impassable with people. Ducked in to get my ISU poster and got out ASAP. One of the most annoying groups of people walking slowly in front of us and stopping for no apparent reason were the Hok cheerleaders; a lot of peroxide died to create that group. Not sure why they were there. Governor was blabbing over by Natural Resources, people couldn't hear him, I am not sure why anyone wanted to. I'd rather just looked at the fish.

After one time, its pretty meh but what else is there to do

I voted meh.

Every year, we make it a point to go. (going Friday because Firehouse is playing a free stage)
Every time I go, I wonder why I made such a bad decision.
Every time I leave, I say Im never going back.

Went to.the fair yesterday. Craft beer tent was the best part of my day. Got wayyy to drunk and am paying the price today. Took down a fried brownie sundae. Kicked *** in state fair bingo. One day a year is plenty. I highly suggest taking a flask in and just buying a $4 lemonade. 4 beers for $20 at the Bud Tent. 3 beers for $20 at the craft beer tent. Someones making some serious cash.

Just curious, what time did that happen? We were there around 2:30 and waited about 10 minutes because it looked like it was going to happen. Then nothing did and we took off...

Not so fast my friend!
Out of each $7 beer, the ICBT donates $5 back to the Iowa State Fair Foundation (Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation).
All of the tips also go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

I think it was shortly after 3:00. Quite a mob there for it.
